Man lift for fel

You guys not understanding.....that step ladder would be strapped SOLID to the platform, it would be no different than getting on the ladder in your garage, other than the visual effect of you being up higher...it would be a 6ft step ladder btw. BUT, I am old....and actually having harder time with ladders than I use to, not that I've ever been a fan, tend to cramp my feet. SO I'm kind of changing my idea. I've revisited an idea I had about buying a warehouse ladder for my barn. Wish I had done it long ago, just changing a light bulb there is a challenge with moving extension ladders etc. Then it occurred to me there is no reason a warehouse ladder couldn't be lifted with the forks. I've come across a warehouse ladder too, going to look at it next week. With it on the forks......step on it, left forks up...not back and forth with tractor, just straight up, keeping level. Then I just climb the stairs to the pole. Believe it's the route I'm going to go since I'd have to spend some time/money for steel/ on the other idea, and I get the use of the ladder in the barn.

When you say 'warehouse ladder' are you referring to the one like mine in the photo below? IMG_0286.JPG

If so, it depends upon an approximate 7' x 4' footprint for stability which your forks spaced 3-4' apart will not provide.

I'll admit to having done my fair share of unsafe things in the past but I'm with the others in thinking this isn't a good idea.

Yes like that. Where would the ladder go.. It would be chained to the forks via weld on chain to the ladder, so how is it going to slide off...move off the forks? Stability....I would have a welded in slot on the bottom of the ladder....it will not just sit on the forks. It will not be able to move any direction that the forks don't go.

I have been on many warehouse ladders. They are flimsey. Light gauge steel. They are designed to be as light (use as little material) as possible. Go strapping to it or lifting other than the 4 points that would be on the floor, it could fail.

I'll think about it. I have not seen this particular one, as to how 'flimsy' it is...I don't know.

I was thinking more of it not going anywhere the forks don't go....not of it actually bending the metal.

As to the strength of the man lift I talked of building...that originally was a metal pallet that a tractor was shipped on. It would not bend.

A craigslist find, my warehouse ladder is pretty sturdy. Added a 6' step ladder extension to reach the lights in the center of the shop.

I like your ladder.

Well the warehouse ladder I had targeted, have picture, and I think LD1 is right...this one is on the light side. I see some sturdier ones, but my gosh the price just gets to much. It would be handy for my barn for sure. Not sure the ceiling height, it has a loft, but I know I can raise the fel all the way up and not hit the ceiling.

I need to price some steel. I may build in some steps in the man lift...I need another 4 1/2 foot off the floor of the man lift to stand on to get to where the rope needs to go. The advantage over the ladder would be rails on the man lift to hold on too.
