Man lift for fel

I adapted a Genie AWP24 to my FEL years ago, mostly to finish tiling my 20' retaining wall, but also to trim
trees.

The man basket is all aluminum and larger than I need, maybe 24x30" inside. I can go up 24', and I
have only used a ladder in there to climb out of it onto a roof.

I always plant the FEL on the ground when using it, and it is pretty slick.

Can I ask how much you picked up the Genie for?
And would you do it over again?

On a windy day, can the flag be removed from a telescoping flag pole easy enough, or is it a bit of a challenge? I sure like the idea of no rope to mess with.

Sure. No problem dropping the flag pole in the wind. Wind blows like heck up in the North Sacramento Valley. Shredded both flags in less than 2 years. Here's the pole on the day my brother and I installed it. I bought the pole at the Feb ag show in Colusa CA from the flag lady there. My brother bought the flags. He was visiting from the hometown, STL, and wanted to do a project at the ranch while there. Put a solar powered LED spotlight near the foot of the pole so I could fly the flag at night.

Good luck

That looks straight enough. I thought they might bow more than that on a windy day.

I got the AWP24 for $500 from my favorite rental yard. It was one of several that
had been retired from use, and stored outside for years.

I had just offered $400 to a hoarder friend of mine who had picked up a 20-ft
Genie manlift (also non-op), which he refused. He got it for $250, IIRC.

When I bought mine, I did not know that it needed a complete rebuild. I did that,
but it was not easy. All of the the rollers inside it needed replacement, or at
least dismantling and re-greasing. All the needle bearings were bad. There
are tricks to getting it apart and back together. The top is open to the weather,
so it must be protected or the bearings will all go bad.

Would I do it again? I like what I got out of it, but I would not do another one.
So, I guess that is a Yes. Oh, and other brands, like Upright, seem to protect
the innards from the weather better.

Go rent a one man tow behind manlift from a rental shop. Your idea is a recipe for disaster. Sorry to be so blunt but in this case it may save your life.

Earlier this year I sold our Genie manlift with articulating boom because it just wasn't getting used enough.

Went back to using the 'man basket' I built several years ago.

Whatever you do, stay safe.

Nothing wrong with that IMO.

But put an 8' or 12' step ladder in that rig as the OP wants to do......not something for me. But not likely something you would ever need either, as it looks like you got plenty of boom height.

You guys not understanding.....that step ladder would be strapped SOLID to the platform, it would be no different than getting on the ladder in your garage, other than the visual effect of you being up higher...it would be a 6ft step ladder btw. BUT, I am old....and actually having harder time with ladders than I use to, not that I've ever been a fan, tend to cramp my feet. SO I'm kind of changing my idea. I've revisited an idea I had about buying a warehouse ladder for my barn. Wish I had done it long ago, just changing a light bulb there is a challenge with moving extension ladders etc. Then it occurred to me there is no reason a warehouse ladder couldn't be lifted with the forks. I've come across a warehouse ladder too, going to look at it next week. With it on the forks......step on it, left forks up...not back and forth with tractor, just straight up, keeping level. Then I just climb the stairs to the pole. Believe it's the route I'm going to go since I'd have to spend some time/money for steel/ on the other idea, and I get the use of the ladder in the barn.
