Rent something to fix the rope......what about next time? The rope was 18 months old. It was a surprise it broke. Broke once...it will break again.

I bought the forks for $500....have other uses for them too. My man lift build will cost maybe $100 or so for steel, to add to what I have.

Next rope break cost to fix....$0.

Fix this one, then replace the rope once a year, from ground level, before it breaks.

Not buying a new rope....it broke close to the end, and can be used for again for at least a bit.

I've learned, there are wear points, and I do plan to rotate the rope so that the wear points are moved.

Use plastic coated wire rope or cable. I can't believe that would ever wear out, but the problem is getting up to change it in the first place.

I read through this whole thread, and unless I missed it, no one mentioned that usually machinery made to lift personnel have special designs in their hydraulics. The problem arises when a hydraulic line busts or a fitting gets broken off. Most personnel lifts have a orifice screwed right into the cylinder to control the speed if the cylinder went into free-fall. I have also heard of special valving, though I don't know how it works, that will lock a cylinder if pressure is lost on either side. We had a skytrack where I used to work with a personnel basket, and the mechanic had a lot of heartburn with us using it because our machine didn't have the personnel lifting certification.

Here's one I have. I didn't build it, but it is a homemade attachment. Since the forklift lifts higher then a tractor there's no need to strap a step ladder in it. image-4215036269.jpg

Pretty much what I've got going on. I've scab the floor together, but going to have to buy some steel pipe for the post to build it up, and probably expanded metal to cover the floor.

Well....my man lift project has taken a turn.
I have one more brace to put in before putting on expanded metal floor...then building the rails.....but it stops now to reevaluate things.

Today I came across this...and for $25, I figured I could make it work. It's just slightly smaller footprint, but not much and is very heavy built. I'll now do some head scratching to see what adjustments/mods I'll do it to. If anyone has some ideas on how/what to mod, chime in. Does anyone know the original purpose of this heavy metal basket?

Thats a stackable parts bin used in an assembly plant (for exa, ple). Parts suppliers fill them with tail lights, or radios, or alternators or other stuff and they get moved to the line as needed. Very heavy. The weight of this would subtract from the weight of stuff you want to lift up 25' with your loader.

My place of work used them for dipping painted materials into a caustic tank to strip the layers of built up paint off. Mostly chains and hooks from the paint line.
