I am a newbie to maintenance on a tractor. I have performed maintenance on my own vehicles, but my girlfriend has a used Ford 4630 they inherited, and needs to change the oil and antifreeze. I have a few questions.

1. What is the oil capacity of this tractor, and what is the recommended type of oil?
2. How do you change the antifreeze? I saw a diagram on the hood but it appears as if it shows them draining it out of the side of the block, which I don't understand? Does it drain from the radiator reservoir? How much do I put back in?

All help is appreciated!

Here's the easy answer.

1, you need to get a 'C' rated oil ( diesel) oil.. not a 'S' rated oil like for gas engines. I don't have a manual for that machine, but your GF -SHOULD- since she owns it. most of the 3xxx/4xxx/5xxx/7xxx machines i'm familiar with take between 2 and 3 gallons of oil. for instance.. my 7610s takes 3.. but my 5000 takes 2.5.. can't remember what my 3000 takes.. but is likely the same as your 4630.. and probably near 2g. Walmart sells a 5qt bottle of 15w40 motorcraft oil that would be ideal for that diesel engine.. 2 jugs at about 11$ per jug would be great. though in reality.. just about any 15w40 diesel oil brand will work... probbaly won't be much cheaper to use the supertech oil vs the motorcraft.. so i'd go with the motorcraft oil. 15w40 covers you in most temp ranges in all but the coldest areas, where. if ou are in an arctic area.. a 10w30 C rated oil would likely be better.

coolant.. fil er' up.

I'd either get a 'precharged' fleet style antifreeze that has anti cavitation / electrolysis addatives, or just use the generic green stuff ( supertech is fine ), and add in a 4$ bottle of FP-15 addative from the CNH dealers parts counter.

there should be a petcock on the block.. but most of us just pop a lower hose off the rad.. lets you look and feel the hoses over as well.

If you want to drain the entire cooling system, you have to drain both the radiator and block. Most 4630 radiators don't have a drain in the radiator; remove the bottom end of the lower hose. The block drain is either a petcock, or more likely a 1/4" pipe plug in the RH side of the block to the rerar of the injection pump. Figure 3 gals more or less for a complete fill. Removing only the lower rad hose will leave the block full to the level of the water pump.
