Kubota DT245
Hey guys,
In the market for a new slightly bigger tractor 35 to 45 hp. Currently own a Kubota DT245. Have been looking around and really like the new 35 series Mahindra. I have a dealer about 10 miles from me and he swears by them. My concern is how stable is the company? Are they going to be around ( in the US) in the next 10 years? How about resale?

The cost difference between the 45hp Mahindra ($23,000)and the Grand L3940 ($25,000) is only about $2,000. With loaders

Welcome all thoughts

your best way to answer that question is to start digging around online and find the financials of the company and what they are saying about the American market. Mahindra as a company will be around, if they stay in the US would be the question. You'd also want to look at the viability and stability of Mitsubishi, TYM, or whatever company is building the model you are looking at. You won't get a straight answer from a message board filled with dealers (like me) and people who already own a Mahindra.

My comment to this is....Did we every think GM, Ford, Dodge, Cat, John Deere, etc.. would be where they are today.

The difference is those companies didn't start out in an already saturated market. I'm not big on the Mahindra Ag tractors, I've just read about a several major problems hear on TBN considering the number of units that are sold, but I do like the compacts and think they are great. The Mahindra will weigh more than the Kubota. The Grand L will have all the bells and whistles. If you are worried about that $2,000 difference, you will probably make that up in resale value as soon as you take it off the lot.

Of course most Mahindra owners will say they love their tractor, as will the Kubota guys. Buy what you think fits your needs the best and take everything into consideration.

I think MahindraUSA is here to stay in the US, just like its parent company will remain in India and other parts of the world. Take a look at Mahindra's history you'll see that it isn't a newcomer to the game. Remember the Jeep from WWII? Also, while not completely decoupled from the rest of the world's economy, India's growth has slipped from 9% to 5%* which is an enviable place to be right now. (much better than negative growth aka recession)

Also, with MahindraUSA's headquarters in Tomball, TX I'd be willing to guess you'd always have dealers within range. :) Good luck on your search.

JD makes much more money but Mahindra makes more tractors than JD.

Just my opinion here, I believe that Mahindra will be here through thick and thin. So just how much do you like the Mahindra? Does everything feel like it is in the right place for you? How about the Kubota, how does it feel? If it were me, I would be most concerned about how comfortable each tractor is. When you sit on the tractor all day, you want it to feel right, not having to fumble around trying to get to the controls. What feels right for one person may be wrong for another. As far as the $2000 price difference, that is less than 10%, go with the tractor that feels best to you, you will be happier in the long run.

Good luck with your decision, oh yeah, I'm one of those Mahindra owners, 7520 and 3215. :D

I don't know about the stability, but just in the length of warranty could be your $2,000.00 savings or more. Our 6025 was two months out of warranty and cost $2250.00 to fix and then we had to pay for a rental tractor because the Mahindra dealers are so small that they can't get it fixed quickly.

Overall the Deere would have be cheaper for us.

test drive them both to see which one feels better to you.
either machine should be able to do what you want it to.
(personally, more HP for less $$ sounds good, but then my local orange dealer treated me like he didn't want my business and the red dealer 165 miles away did, so you can guess which way I chose)

If you have a TYM dealer in your area you could check them to as they made a lot of Mahindra's tractors. They also have a longer warranty. In the end get what you like and fits you the best. You will likely own the tractor many years so the resale should be lower on the list as things can change a lot over 20 years.

I have to chuckle every time I read "what about re-sale value?". These things aren't cars. The 4 tractors I have combined are literally 150 years old.....I'm not particularly worried about resale.....I hope to be using them for about another 100 or so years...wait a minute...my nephews as yet unborn children can probably use them....BobG in VA

I have to chuckle when everyone always throws the "choose which ever one is more comfortable". It's a tractor, not a car. I guess I'm old school. I don't think dad or grandad ever decided on one machine over another because it was more pleasing to their backside. Proven reliability and dealer support always came first. Comfort was probably the last thing on my list. I guess anything with a padded seat suits me just fine.

Mahindra may be here as long as anyone. I don't personally care for them. The resale in Texas for Mahindra "ain't squat." There sure seems like alot of major problems reported here for the number sold. Lots of owners that have them like them and rave about their reliability, but may only have 2 or 3 hundred hours so far. Good luck...

Resale might make a difference if you recently dropped some serious coin on a machine and now find yourself downsized or outsourced out of a job and have to unload it

The few bucks you saved on the "off brand" might be a tougher re-sell to a potential buyer who hasn't ever heard of that "Longdongfengshuieuroretard" tractor.

Sorry, that wasn't a slam at Mahindra, which I like. It was a general comment on why resale should be a factor for consideration when making big purchases like a tractor. Buying based on price point alone is sometimes false economy.

Heywood.... Buying on price is false and I am paying for even factoring it in with Mahindra.

I will take a slam at them. I just found out this morning that our tractor is down again. My other half didn't tell me due to her knowing I would go ballistic. It is down with the same problem that we asked the dealer with the $2k bill to find and fix last time(a month or so ago). She called the three closest dealers and the earliest we could get it even looked at was next week. It went to our shop so we can fix it internally. This won't be in a warranty even though we have "warranty" on the tractor because Mahindra won't cover a **** thing. I have also found out the resell on the tractor sucks. It is 1/2 of a deere that is the same age. I feel so bad for convincing my other half that we should buy Mahindra over the new holland or deere last year.

Some people may say I am just being loud and vocal, but I haven't even started screaming about this thing yet. There are too many dealers on this board that defend these tractors and other dealers that more people should stand up and say something.

I've said this before and will say it again, all manufactures have some problems with some of their tractors. If you wanted to you could go and look at the Kubota, New Holland, and probably even John Deere forums and find people that are so unhappy with their machine and or dealer that they would never have anything to do with that brand again. Face it, this stuff happens, yes it sucks when it happens to you, but it still happens to ALL of the makes and brands.

It also sounds like either your local dealers are all very busy or they all suck. Would you have been better off if you had bought another brand? Sounds to me like you would still be waiting to get whatever brand you had bought fixed, or were the three closest dealers all Mahindra dealers?

As far as the John Deere selling for twice what the Mahindra is selling for, well if they are apples to apples comparison, I sure hope that it would be in that neighborhood. When I bought my Mahindra 7520, it was 64% the cost a John Deere of the same size, and I never even priced out all the options for it that the Mahindra came std with at that time. I have no doubt that the John Deere would have been very close to double the price of the Mahindra with an exact item for item comparison. Is the John Deere better, maybe, I personally doubt it though. But then I just play with mine on the ranch and am not making a living with it, have had no problems that I couldn't fix myself.

I have to say that it sounds like you will never be happy with Mahindra, sorry to see that, but again this stuff happens, maybe bite the bullet and trade that machine in on that Deere that you wish you had.

Good luck solving your tractor problems.
