Considering purchase of the M9540 for my ranching work since my Ford 7740 bit the dust. I roll 4X6 round bales and pull a 15' batwing mower.
After researching various brands I believe this tractor will fit the job but I'm concerned about the overall lightness of this tractor. Does anyone have experience with the M9000 or the M9540 in hay work and general ranch work? Will this tractor handle it? Should this tractor have good longevity performing these tasks 400 hours per year? Thanks-Gary

I consider both equal here as the 7000 series is also a 85 pto horsepower tractor. For PTO work unless on hills the lower weight might be a plus! Other wise I like the ability to put the weight where it is needed rather then to have a tractor to heavy to begin with. I like the cast rear wheels and add three sets of rear weights and you'll be fine!

Art-I appreciate your opinion. I think the lighter weight will actually be a plus for me as we are in a river bottom here with lots of boggy areas that heavy equipment likes to sink thru. I agree the hp is there to run the implements. I think my concern is really with simply durability. The Kubota seems to be well built but will it hold up over the years with proper usage and maintenance to last as long as the JD's, Ford's and Massey's.

The M9000's have very little reliance on electrics and therefore are usually very reliable out to 4-5000 hours before having the usual types of troubles from wear that other tractors have too.

What happened to the 7740 out of interest?

We have had one (M9540 DT, open station 4WD) since last spring and have had 0 problems. Do not have a hay bailer, but have done alot of heavy clearing and cleanup using the front end loader, moved 100's of 6X5 round bales, been in and through lots of muddy feed lots, heavy brush hogging, etc. No complaints. Still don't have 300 hours on it. We would buy another. It is smoother and more quiet than our M5400. FAST hydraulics also. Good luck.

Jake- I've got 6100 hours on the 7740 when the PTO clutch pak went out. It's been a good tractor but with this many hours and the other normal wear issues with a tractor with this much useage, it just dosen't dollar out to make expensive repairs now. -Gary

Well it looks like I'm going to find out as I ordered my M9540 today. Unfortunately for me every one in east Texas has decided to buy tractors in the last two weeks and I'm on a list for delivery in Sept. Every M9540 for 150 miles has been sold in the last two weeks and you have to wait on enroute tractors to get one. The two year drought followed by the extremely wet spring and summer this year got everybody buying tractors in August.
I was undecided between the Kubota and the New Holland TD95D until I went and drove the the NH today. In about 5 minutes it was clear I wanted the Kubota. Thanks for everyones input-Gary

Depending on which 7740 you have they are still worth some good money. A cabbed and loadered 7740SL or SLE with 6000 hours on it is worth about 25-35,000 $ if in good order up here.

An open station base model is about 15,000$.

Don't think the clutch pack would be more than a 2-3000$ repair.

Gary I do sell one of those other brands in a different color and I have a bit of experience with one other of the brands from the trade-ins we get. I have good faith that the Kubota will work fine for you with your work as well as give you hours of use with out aggrivation.

I wish mine would bring that much but I've seen two identical cab tractors like mine sell for about $18,000. They both had about 4000 hours on them and were in better shape than mine.
This SLE model has a load sensor which requires removing the cab and splitting the tractor to just replace the pto clutch. That's were the expense is. I was quoted a price of between $5M to $7M just to replace the clutch if there were no other issues found. With this many hours, I would be concerned that other significant repairs would be needed shortly after this.

If that 7740 was in the UK and you were going to scrap it people would think you were crazy.

Those sorts of tractors are in big demand here and you would still get the equivelent of $30,000 to $40,000 for it.

But it might be different where you live.
