Like the others have said... Your problem is most likely due to a valve not applying full pressure to the clutch pack when you do a reverse shuttle... You will need the WSM for that tractor & pressure gauge to find the problem...is anything interfering with the linkage movement toward reverse on the shuttle?

BTW... You are right about not using the foot clutch on shifts... You should let the wet clutch pack do the work, It will not wear down like a dry clutch with repeated application... KennyV

Checked and nothing hanging up with the leavers.

Basiclly after I change from forward to reverse (after I shift) then throtle up to move backward it will not move, RPM increase but the tractor will not move so something has to be slipping or something?

If the tractor is on flat ground its fine but a small and mean small or any kind of down pressure from the loader, scoping a load of dirt in the bucket causes the tractor not to move in reverse.

the exact description happened to my 7040 a few hrs out of the factory. if you are mechanically confident, remove the clam shell cover on the shuttle shifter on column. there are adjustments for forward & reverse travel (if hyd, not sure re: synchro shifter, but probably similar). the travel should be equalized in either direction....my guess is that it is not fully adjusted for reverse (too much forward)....i would get a helper to spot you as you make adjustments and try it....it is an easy fix with proper adj. a matter of equalizing travel for proper valve flow...... let us know

Excellent, thanks for the information. Did yours act like it was slipping after you tried to move? I ran it around the field in reverse on flat ground and it worked fine then continued to back up a hill and it started to slip again.

I'll pull the cover and see if these is trash under the cover that may have caused the adjustment to change. What tools do you remember using?

Thanks again!

it worked for a few hrs from the dealer, then acted exactly the same as yours....even when fixed, double check the travel adjustment in either direction, just as you would for old school valve adjustment lash on engine tappets.
