A few years ago I purchased a M4050 with front end loader with 2000 hrs on clock for use on my 200 acre hobby cattle farm. The tractor is spotless with no oil leakes, lives in a shed and has been fully serviced oils, belts, hoses etc and does only 60 odd hrs per year. The tractor is perfect for my needs however, I could smell unburn fuel or exhust fumes often when operating it. I extended the exhuast pipe and checked for leakes, I also introduced positive crankcase ventilation to the motor by re directing the crankcase ventilation into the air intake, I can some times still smell these fumes.
Could this motor be glazed up ? mabey due to low usage, operating temperature should not a problem I live in Australia.
What are these models like, any another problems ?

Your injectors may be a bit plugged or coked. May have a weak spring in one dribbling fuel in during the exhaust stroke? A good diesel shop should be able to diagnose quickly.
