Im in need of new tires for my PU and wondered what you all have had good success with. The OEM tires (Goodyear Wrangler ST) worn really well even though I was slack about keeping them rotated...80K miles. When I bought my truck it was right at a time when we moved back to an urban setting but now Im back in the sticks and do much less hiway driving. Mostly its rough back roads and sometimes no roads. So, Id like something w/ more traction and a better load rating. Id very much appreciate any recommendations youd give etc. Thanx.

About 30,000 miles ago I replaced the stock Goodyear Wranglers on my Ram 1500 4x4 with a set of Sigma Stampede's. The tires have a real aggresive tread on them and an almost BFG All-Terrain look to them. They have great traction and have worn very well. I rotated the tires once at about 20,000 miles and will do it again in the spring. They are about half worn which is expected since they have no mileage warranty on them. I expect to get about 60,000 out of them. The best part was it only cost $522 for 4 265/70/17 tires mounted and balanced. I have been real happy with them.

Also, it looks like they have a more aggressive pattern tire available now. Stampede Radial AT/S

I am currently on my second set of Dayton Timberline A/T's. I was very pleased with the first set and recently replaced them with another. I went up in size over what came standard with my 1/2 ton p/u and was looking to go with an all terrain tire that was not going to bust my budget. Alot of the other tires that came highly recommended like some of the Michelins and Bridgestone's were a little more than I wanted to pay. These tires have done pretty well off pavement and still give a good ride on the highway. Got about 55,000 miles on the first set and quite a bit of that was city driving so I was pleased. I paid $130 a tire with the mounting and balancing included.

Bridgestone Revo Dueler. I understand there are other Dueler variations that are not as responsive. I have probably had/purchased/used 15 sets of tires for pickups over the years and nothing I have ever owned or driven has approached these tires. I paid a bit over $200/tire 2+ years ago for them, everything included, and they have been worth every penny. Good ride, outstanding handling dry, wet, and in snow. In fact, I have pushed them in snow to "check them out" and been very impressed. No change in gas mileage, can't say how long the tires will last, but the performance is beyond what I hoped for.

At 45,000ish miles the Firestone Steeltex OEM tires on the F350 need to be replaced. They would have lasted longer if I had rotated them and had the rebalanced...  I replaced them with Pirelli's! On a F350! :D I have about 55,000ish miles on them and it looks like they might need to be changed out soon. Kept a penny from breakfast to look at the tread this morning. :)

The Pirelli Scoprians I bought are a Load Range E. I don't really go off roading for the most part. Just a bit on the property but not often. We have not had too much snow but we did have a even a few years ago that kept kids at school overnight. The tires handled the ice just fine.

More importantly to me is that the tires handle MUCH better than the OEMs. There is a curve I drive frequently where the OEMs tires where not real happy driving through at 50-55 mph. The Pirelli's can handle that same curve at 60-65. I have been impressed with the Pirelli's handling.

Not sure if I'm happy with the milage though. But if they last another 5-10K I guess I can't complain.

On my previous two trucks I had put on Michilens but they where very expensive. They handled well but I sold the trucks before I changed out the tires so I don't know how well they wore.

I will check prices again but I do like the Pirelli's.

Later,
Dan

I have ran several trucks with the Firestone Destination M/T. They have given good milage and great off toad traction. I regularly pull my two wheel drive box van out with my 4x4 F-350. They are some kind of hybrid rubber formula that gives good wear and good traction. NOT cheap.

I use Michelin on my light trucks. Wear well with good handling. I just put a set of Michelin X Radials on my Suburban. the base price was $148 per tire with a 65000 mile warranty. With taxes and mounting and balancing came to less than $750 at Sams.

They sure run good on the highway.

I have Michelin X from Sams on a 94 Century one son drives, and Michelin Energy on our Sienna. Both seem to be good tires, above average performance, but neither handles nearly as well as the HD F250 that has the Bridgestone Revo Dueler tires. And that same F250 with the factory General tires had all the handling characteristics of a rock....a very slick rock, I might add.

Thanx very much for the help!

One question...was looking at Michelin LTX AT2s and they can be had in 4 or 12 ply. The 4 is a passenger car tire and the other is LT. The former has a 65K warranty but the other has none. Am I wrong in thinking that both tires should give identical mileage performance?
