At 180 hours I switched from standard to synthetic Mobile One oil and now have lots of black smoke. I am up to about 205 hours and it seems to be getting worse.

The performance is unchanged-excellent-it just smokes like crazy. Any time it is under a load it smokes. I have never had this happen before.

Any suggestions on what to do? I can take it to the dealer but I want to do that as a last resort.

Maybe injector cleaners? I am clueless.

Thank you!

First thing I would do is check the air filter to be sure it's clean, and make sure no 'varmints' stored food in the air intake system.

The oil change may just be a coincidence.

I checked the air filter-it was gross.......I can't believe I let it get so bad...

I will have to wait until Monday to get another one but that is definitely part of the problem.

Thanks!!!

I assume you bought diesel oil...

Black smoke is a rich fuel mix. The crankcase oil can burn like fuel oil if it gets into your intake path, or into the cylinders.

I've run synthetic oil in my B7800 since the second oil change without problems, but if you've got a bad valve seal, or routed crank breather fumes into the intake like in a pcv system this could happen, I guess.

But if your air filter is clogged that's the most probable reason, I think.

I bought Mobile One at Costco 5W30.

I think the problem has been solved. I will have to check the air filter (NAPPA for $35...) more frequently.

Beez perhaps you can explain to us exactly what 'diesel oil' is?

Thanks again!

I didn't realize you put gasoline engine oil in(good catch BeezFun)............Change to diesel oil ASAP, and replace the air filter.
