Hey, y'all....

We've got about 100 acres of mostly pines (planted for most part) and wanting to clear some land to make way for orchard and other trees as well as do some food plots. Have some high ground and also some low ground that stay wet when we get some rain.

I would like a front-end loader to help with miscellaneous stuff we will do. Filling in areas with topsoil and whatnot...

Budget is about $10k, but is flexible (to an extent)

Currently, a farmer buddy keeps some of the roads disced/cut, but so far, we only have access to about 15 acres or so. In process of getting some other access roads cut around perimeter and also some going through property to open up our possibilities.

I'd like 4wd and diesel, preferably.

I've had my eye on a Yanmar 3110 such as this one, but I really don't know much about tractors. I know my way around larger diesels (boats) and also own a diesel car so I feel fairly comfortable with minor stuff on engine. Also work for commercial truck dealer and our shop knows its way around hydraulics and engines...

Tractor Yanmar 3110D with Loader

also, what is "ROPS?" and any other suggestions on where to look? Good people to deal with? I'm in Charleston, SC

Thanks!

ROPS are roll over protection.personally for what your wanting todo you need a 50hp tractor.

I should clarify that we won't be trying to clear any land with this tractor.

Why do you think we need 50+ hp?

because you said you wanted to build roads through your place.but a 40hp would prolly do what your wanting.

yea, not going to build roads with this. There is a fellow down the road that will do some work for about $50/hour with his track hoe.

Sorry for the lack of clarification.

Then we're just guessing. Most major brands are great and you'll have few troubles. Like anything else, maintenance is good.

Our property is actually in Walterboro. I live in Awendaw, so I imagine we are both in God's country...you're just in God's Country South ;)

I am familiar with Steen and like Kubota products. I may ride down there on the next trip to our property.

what are your pine row spacings.. this will make a difference with what machine you buy.

for general maintenance, a 4wd in the 30ish hp range is a good smaller maneuverable tractor. if you want to pull any heavy implements, etc.. zi'd nudge up.. but you can alwaus get a good loader tractor in the 30hp range.. than later adda a big older 2wd 50-70hp brute to do real (large) work.. etc.
