Looking for my first chainsaw: Stihl MS251 or Jonsered 2255?

Nice!

It'll pull 3/8 just fine, but I'd go 18" bar if 3/8 chain. It might be a bit faster with a good .325 chain...

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Ran out and cut about a dozen stumps. The saw cuts very well, I would say better than my Husky 450 did. Feels more "consistent" thru the power band. So far I like it!

This stump was about 24" ...

If you want a nuclear war, say the word "Toyota" I dare ya.... Lol :-0

Sent from my iPad using TractorByNet

Well, I actually own a 2007 Toyota tundra 2 wd as well as the dodge. I like the dodge the best. The Dodge usually gets the call for heave work

I will not buy homeowner/farm boss/rancher saws with plastic cases.

I have to ask, Are there any or did husky build any rancher saws without a plastic case ?? Reason I ask is, My rancher (bought from husky dealer) doesn't have a plastic.. It's aluminum or something. Not plastic though.

The older ones are magnesium and very good saws. Not sure when they went to plastic on the lower end saws, but I think it was in the 90s'. Not just Husky either...

It should cut better than your 450, it's a better saw! :)

I'm just a little surprised. I was always happy enough with the 50 cc size in that 450 ... but the 50cc's in this Dolmar certainly feel more robust. And that's with a 20" chain vs the 18" I had on the 450.

The 450 is a good saw, but not all 50cc saws are equal. 550xp would be even a bit more of a surprise. ;)

I can believe that. My 53 cc rancher sure doesn't run the 20' big chain very well. (It's not hard to bog it down) I should probably go to the smaller chain and bar like come on the 20'' poulan's like they sell at the box store.. My rancher must have the magnesium case.. It's sure not plastic

My 50cc MS261 would not run a big 20 foot chain very well either.

A 20'' b/c is for a 60cc saw. A 50cc saw should only have a 16'' b/c.

Really depends on the application. 50ccs turning 13,000 rpm cutting soft wood works pretty good for me. Also, my 361 pulls a 24" no problem with 60ccs. I could put a 20 on my 361, but I'd have to bend over more. I think your statement is a bit of an over simplification of the situation.

Let me add to my original statement, cutting harwood without a skip chain. I was just saying I really don't want to cut a peice of hardwood that is 20" in diameter with a 50cc saw, I really wouldn't do it with a 60cc. I would use a 70cc.

My post was a joke about the typo of feet instead of inches. But as far as a 20" bar on a 50cc saw goes, it can be fine, depending on the wood. A 50 cc saw will pull a 20" chain in soft wood.

The 20" chain on this Dolmar pulls just dandy... Had absolutely no problem cutting thru a bunch of oak stumps.

Lol I have a 20" bar on my 361 59 cc but given the choice I'll go for the 92 cc saw on the 660 for anything over 12 - 14" the 361 gets the job done but the 660 puts a smile on your face doing it. I've never tried skip chain on anything but my 36" bar as it is required to not get the bar wedged in the wood from excessive wood chips. I should probably put a dual port on the 660 and open up the 361. I need to get a tach as well before I can do either.

I consider a 361 a 60cc saw since it is 59cc. I agree that 14" is about all I want to cut with a 60cc saw, I'd rather use my 70cc saw. A 70cc or 90cc saw will definatley put a smile on your face. I got a Hyway brand dual port cover on the 660. It took a little work to make it fit but it was only $20. I think the complete muffler is $30. The throttle response is way better and so it the torque. The 660 sounds awesome with a dual port. I have heard it makes them 7.5 to 7.8hp. I also changed to a 8 tooth sprocket and to take advantage of the 660's power. I have a 034 super which is pretty much like your 361. I am going to get a ebay muffler to mod for it. You can tune by ear but a tach is nice to see what your max RPM is and how many rpms it holds in the wood.
