Looking for a Bomber

If a hat isn't cutting it something like a heated vest really helps too.

There's a retired fella down the road from me who wears a snowmobile helmet when he snowblows with his BX. Brilliant. I've worn mine a few times when snowblowing with my tractor and I will say that when the wind is howling and shifting, it is a beautiful thing to have that full face screen. The rest of the time I have a bomber hat that I bought local years ago so I don't think that info helps much. I'd consider a snowmobile helmet though. Some even have heated face shields to prevent ice up.

A bomber hat, that is. I was clearing snow the other day on my little Kubota BX without a cab, and the wind was pretty stiff. At 72, I don't handle the cold as well as I once did. I got to thinking about a bomber hat that I once had, until my dog chewed it beyond use. I used to wear the hat when I did a lot of ice fishing, and it was the warmest hat ever. I got thinking that is what I need to wear when I'm clearing snow on the tractor. The one I had was made with a leather shell, and it had either fake or real rabbit fur inside. It was incredibly warm. I looked on line the other day to try and find one to order, and that's another story in itself. Just wondering if any of you guys wear that type of hat, and if so, where did you get it. A lot of the retailers on line look to be hoaxes. I'm not sure if this belongs on a tractor forum, but I figured a lot of guys here have to dress for winter weather, so here it is. Any reliable sources where I can find a good one is much appreciated.
My gf gave me a couple of gators for Christmas. I pull it down over my head and around my neck. I wish I had known how much they keep me warm years ago. I can also pull the front up around my mouth and nose. Along with a sock hat I keep warm. If I added the bomber hat I'd be toasty but the sock hat and gator is just fine.

Check out Coleman's. They have a lot of surplus cold weather gear from all over the world. They will very likely have what you need. They have lot of stuff. Some prices are reasonable, but shipping is expensive.

I think you are talking about neck gaiters. Gators might be a little iffy, but at least the cold would slow them down. :ROFLMAO:

My go to is ski googles, when its really cold and windy I wear a thin balaclava, a neck warmer, a tuque with a hood on top of that and my googles on top of everything else.

for snow blowing my father used to wear a full face snowmobile helmet on his tractor I simply wear what I stated above.
Interesting. I get a text sale add everyday from Menards Big Box store selling odd stuff. Today they had a Swiss Black Balaclava for $2.99. It looked like some kind of pouch. It sounds like a pastry. After googling it I ordered one to use at my river property. I'm 82 and still learning. Nice to have a warm head.

I have fox, mink, and rabbit fur hats and the bomber style rabbit is the warmest of the three. I trapped the mink and fox and the rabbit was probably sewn by some 9 year old chinese girl.

I'd just settle for a way to tuck in my parka hood on the right side of my face just enough to see the trailing snow plow.

I wear old ski clothing; balaclava, googles, old ski bibs and jacket with a hood. You can get a lot of this at thrift shops for little money.

Eddie Bauer sells THE warmest bomber hat on the market! It's filled with down and have used mine for over 30 years...still like new. $32.50 on sale.

I have a client who imports Russian fur-lined hats (Ushanka) and sells them on Amazon. Since the war started, supplies have dried up and shipping has become impossible, so any of these you find on Amazon are going to be pre-war. (You are not helping Putin by buying one.) They are pretty warm - I hear winters in Russia are brutally cold. Might be worth a look. They sell for $25-ish in fake fur, more in real fur. They are NOT "rare" so don't overpay. The emblem slips right off so you can wear it without anyone thinking we are being invaded.
