So I got a line on a old 4wd B7100 I'm kind of fond of old orange painted iron, with rusted patina. preliminary reports from a buddy are it has a less aggressive tires not ag, not turf and not r14 ,no loader and believe loaded valve nvr had one I believe. but has mid pto and a gear drive transmission. Hasn't been ran in years.stored, out doors Luckily vertical exhaust pipe was covered with a coffee can. Didn't get the run down why it's not used anymore nor do I know the mechanical skills of previous owner. Best case why it's not running is wiring which report I got is a rats nest with possible faulty fuel shut off solenoid. I've learned how to make one failing work seemingly indefinitely that problaby should have been replaced on my 2850 yrs ago. When I go look at it hopefully in the upcoming weeks I'll bring a new old battery some wiring and components I have on hand, check all fluid levels, including what inside of fuel tank looks like, check top of oil cap for slimy gunk possibly indicating head gasket failure, open air filter making sure it hasn't been infested with rodents before trying to start it. End result of I do buy it won't be a restored show tractor merely a somewhat reliable and mechanically maintained tractor using the reportedly working tph for smaller implements and rear and mid pto which was reported to be in working condition. . it comes with a mmm mower deck but is reported to be in scrap yard condition.hoprfillyvall linkages and mower brackets are still with it. So my questions are is there anything else I should be checking on that series of older b series kubotas. I believe the older ones were over built anyway. Hr # unknown nor is any pm history. Figure for the price of it if it has serious problems I don't want to spend lots of time and money on I could get most of purchase price by parting it out and a few leaks aren't deal breakers for me anyway. Apologies for long winded thread but I truly appreciate insight and experience by owners of older Kubota b series tractors. Definitely I'm not a tick tock Darren type buyer especially on old cheap stuff. Apologize again no pics at this time but don't want to show what I found to other potential interested buyers. Lol

It sounds like you are a pretty good mechanic. So am I.

When I go look at an old machine I take along a buddy who is also an experienced mechanic.
His job is to point out all the things wrong with it & all the reasons not to buy it.

My neighbor has a B7100. 4WD, stick shift.
Front PTO is driven by the engine crankshaft.

He loves it. It's been a fixture in our neighborhood for over 40 years. He works it all seasons, road rake and blade in summer, front mounted snow blower in winter.

We put a new clutch assembly in it about ten years ago, and replaced the brakes about 7 years back.
Simple rig to work on.

No I don't consider
Myself a mechanic especially a good one, just a tinkerer of simpler mechanical junk with a touch of useless information who's ok at reverse engineering stuff. I do occasionally surprise myself sometimes and get it right. Anyways if this tractors still available when I get a chance it's at least worth looking at.. unfortunately most of my acquaintances id bring along, besides my wife would encourage me to buy it. šŸ˜‚

It's definitely worth looking at. They are tough, simple, and prolific- there are new and used parts out there. If you buy it, make friends with Daryl Grammer of Mossy Creek Outdoors. He's a great guy. He knows his old Kubota's, and has tons of parts.

I bought a new B7100HST with FEL & hoe in 1979. Owned it for 12 years and It was a great little tractor that I used extensively while building my house. Sold it to a friend in 1992 who still uses it.

I put a 7' plow on it and used it to clear snow from my 1.25 mile private road. Only 17 HP but it did all I asked of it. I found it super easy to work on since most components were within easy reach.

I actually wish I'd kept it since It would get into tight spots my larger machines can't.
