I'm looking at a long 900, and need to get some info. First.. I'm guessing the unit is about 80ish hp.. but have a question about the pto... is it only 1000 rpm pto.. or also 540.. or only 540? I've heard conflicting stories about this...

Also.. who services long? Does long agribusiness still exist.. or has it been chopped up and sold?

thanks

It is a badge-engineered Ursus built version of the Zetor Crystal 8011,with 72 pto hp. Not sure on the 1000 pto speed, but will have 540 and probably ground speed pto.

Long still survives, but is now owned by Escorts. You might have better luck with parts from a Zetor dealer,or if you can find an Ursus dealer.

There is a Long dealer in Brooksville if you need parts or answers.

Good information so far guys, thanks

All I need to do is pin down that pto issue, and that will be the deal maker / breaker.

The dealer I've contacted that has the tractor doesn't know what speed it is.. so I'm having to do my own research.

anyone else have ideas on the pto/

also.. any idea who the dealer in brooksville is?
thanks a bunch

thanks

It only takes 60 seconds to find out. Run it close to redline and count how many times the PTO turns in a minute.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

But seriously, you probably could almost visually tell. If you've seen your PTO shaft turning at 540 and are used to that you can probably sense when it is turning twice as fast.

We have had many people looking for parts for the 900 Long over the years and have found that woodbeef is basically correct, however, Long has no parts support for that tractor and actually sold what parts they had to a company called Oak Implement and they have all but depleted those support parts and Zetor can reluctantly help on a few things on a match up basis--The 900 in this area with CHA will go at auction for $1500 to $2500 in good running condition--Ken Sweet

pudding has a Long 900 spec sheet up on his site. www.puddingsworld.com I sent my copy to a very good friend in France a couple of weeks ago. I might have one from Ursus though,I'll check and see.

Thanks for the info Ken and Woodbeef.

Yep.. that price is what I see here too.. and that's why I was interested.. seems decent for a 80hp tractor.. and again.. that's why I';m doing my homework forst..

Ok.. it looks like that the long 900 could have either a 540 rpm pto.. or a 1000rpm pto.. and it was a quick change kind.. Hmm.. so does hte 1000rpm pto look the same? 6 spline 1 3/8".. or is it bigger with more splines?

I'm just trying to determine how I can tell what type of pto this monster has before going up to look at it again.. as it is a few hour drive..

On that note.. anyone familiar with a case 1070.. I also have a possibility of getting one of those at about twice the price of the long.. does it have a 540 rpm pto?

thanks guys

The Long 900 has an interchangeable 540/1000 pto on it.

The 1000 rpm shaft should have 21 splines on it.

The Case 1070 was a good tractor. 540 was standard,540/1000 was an option. If it has powershift make sure it shifts crisply. Also do not use it stationary on the pto with shifter in reverse.

Thanks for the info.

So basically on the long.. If I see a regular 6 spline 1 3/8" shaft.. I'll know it is 540 rm.. and same with the case then.. right?

As for not setting it in reverse with pto engaged, and stationary... is that an oil slinger.. no pto bearing lube problem?

Now that i've done my research.. looks like the long is a big time orphan with little to no parts support.

I take it the case still has decent parts support?

I'll drive out this weekend to check the case out.. and make sure the pto output looks normal... I'm asuming it would also have a multi splined shaft if it was 1000 rpm? ( tnaks again )
