that cant be all firewood?

I'm with you! Coming from the prairies I find it very hard to burn the heavier versions of hardwood.:D

Cool splitter, judging by the size of the wood pile behind it, I would venture to say that you work the snot out of it. Any splitter that can withstand having that much hardwood put through it for 30 years demands respect. IT CERTAINLY HAS MINE!!!!!

I am just finishing a homemade bandmill and all those logs are making my mouth water......

I once had a load of perfectly straight red oak from 6" to 18" in diameter. It seemed like such a waste to cut and split this up and burn it.. There would be potential saw logs in here, but I don't have the equipment, or the need.

.

I know.

Someone else on the board had a 20 ft log/trunk of ash that they were going to cut for firewood. That would be worth a fortune as boatbuilding wood.

I think it looks great beings I am trying to toss one together right now.

As for good wood going to the furnace. I have over 20 16 to 24 foot long oak and poplar beams out of a large old barn that the last huricane took out. After salvaging all the beams and putting about 2 days work into it we have been through 3 "recycled" lumber buyers who want to pay pennies on the foot. So as of tomorow afternoon they will all be in 18 in peices and waiting on the splitter. There are hundreds of board feet there, but it will keep me warm this winter.
