Looking back at the picture of my old one I do have a lot sharper angle. The good old days when I had a machine shop at my disposal, I just torch cut this one and the beetle only went to 45*

My wood splitter blade used to be sharp until I got ahold of a piece of wood with about six 1/4 diameter nails in it right in a row. Of course it hit all of them. More pieces in the same tree were had 1/2 bolts in it. Needless to say my wedge looked rough after that. I cleaned it up some with a grinder, but I wasn't that worried about it.

Greatly improved sharpening the wedges

I torch cut the edges on my wedges first too. If you look close, you can see a few gouges even after hitting the wedge with a grinder. I have found that a cup type grinding rock on my 7in grinder will cut the metal pretty quick, but it still takes a bit of elbow grease to get it done.

I used 40 grit sanding pads. Rips of off on no time

I like those flapper disc also. I try to keep 40,60, 80 grit on hand. They just dont last as long as grinding rocks. I am still using one cup stone that I used to sharpen the edges on my 12way wedge. Those blades are 30in long and a lot of cutting and grinding. I did use the flapper disc to polish the edges once the heavy grinding was done. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...ntent=159931&gclid=CJbrt7Ddqs8CFUk2gQodQa4NcA

I would say this splitter is faster than the other one, or maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel good

Longevity is not an issue for me because I get them from work haha

I like the trailer. Keeping an eye out for a free one so I can tow it with the tractor & get multiple implements to a job site. Most of my gigs are under a 20 min tractor ride from home, not worth loading & unloading the tractor to haul with the truck.
