Loader Hydraulics Dead

I finally have something to contribute!!! LOL The hinged plate on the loader control according to my loader book is for when you are connecting and disconnecting the loader from the frame. It restricts the fluid flow so the hydraulics work really slowly when lifting the loader out of the frame. If it's in the down position you won't be able to get into the float position.

Re:loader flap

Bird, all of the ones I've seen (on L's) have a rubber bushing around the bolt that holds the flap to the bracket. The purpose of this bushing, other than to keep it from rattling, is to give you something to compress against with the joystick, so you can move it ever so slightly forward, left, and right when attaching and removing the loader. Does yours not work that way?

Re:loader flap

Well Mark, I had to go have another look, and you're right. I can move the stick side to side, but only if I use both hands and move the stick with one hand while I push on the end of the bolt with the other hand (possibly could be changed with some lubrication). I never did find a way that the stick could be pushed forward, but that's all right. At least now I know what the intent was and why they put it on there, and I also know it's totally worthless and I have no use for it. As long as I keep it up out of the way, I can remove and/or hookup the loader quickly and easily. But I appreciate you guys solving the puzzle.

Re:loader flap

Bird, I noticed the same thing on mine, but also noticed that the mounting bolts holes are slotted to allow the whole bracket to be moved so the very limited motion would be enough to do what it's designed to do. I could be that yours isn't quite far enough forward. Well, if it won't allow you to push the joystick forward far enough to cause the loader to pick itself up out of its mount brackets, then it definitely isn't far enough forward. Ain't these text markup features cool?!!? /w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif

Re:loader flap

I'll bet you're right, Mark, but I'm not going to try to adjust it since the only thing I've used it for, or intend to use it for in the future, is to partially lock the joystick in the neutral position when the loader is off the tractor, and it's adjusted now to do that. And yep, I do like the markup feature./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif And the last mesage I posted only took 2 full minutes to post after I previewed it and then clicked on "Continue."/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

I didn't notice any slowness when I posted my message, but while reading yours, I clicked on your name to see how many total posts you've got (165) and it took almost a minute to get the screen. Then I clicked on my name to see the same info (164) and it came up in 5 seconds or so. Strange.

But, unless you just posted another message while I was typing this one, we're even!

Re:loader flap

Well guys, I can see how the flap might be helpful or a saftey feature for taking off your loader but my B21 has one and the loader does not come off. I reread my loader manual and there was no mention of the flap. A friend guessed it was to keep someome from lowering the loader by bumping the control if you wanted to leave it raised for some reason. We may have differnt kinds of flaps in that mine only stops the control lever from moving forward.

Re:loader flap

Yep, it sounds like yours is a safety device to keep someone from inadvertently lowering the loader.

Re:loader flap

I use the flap to keep the control stick from vibrating when I am warming up the engine at lower RPM's. At higher RPM when using the tractor it does not shake.

Re:loader flap

That was my own theory. Since my Owner's Manual also mentioned nothing, I figured that it was required by the Feds. A type of lockout device. I briefly searched the OSHA site (http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/homepage.html), but haven't found anything so far. Have some other .gov sites to check, but haven't had the time to research them. Will let everyone know if I find any info.

BTW: If any new owners have doubts about the need, or the effectiveness, of ROPS and belts, check out the OSHA link. Search on 'ROPS'. It will change your mind in a heartbeat!
