the 7040 on up has a limited slip ft differential. some GL5 gear oils have LS additives in their stock, others not. There are also LS additives one can add to differentials. Should the lack of it be a concern in the differential? No where in the manual does it state it's need. maybe the rpm is so low it is not a valid comparison to the automotive application. k central techs didn't know. thanks bb

That's a really good question! My 4740 has limited slip in the front drive as well (I've witnessed it in action several times).

I know that in Chevrolet applications (Corvette in particular) limited slip additive is VERY important. In fact, it has been my experience that failure to change the lube often, or at least not putting in more additive every 5000 miles or so, can resuly in a "grinding" noise in the clutches when turning at low speeds - such as backing out of a driveway.

I don't know if we can relate that situation to Kubota's system - or if it even has clutches. But I can't imagine that Kubota wouldn't specify a particular lube or additive if it was necessary for their limited slip, and I see nothing about it in my manual.

It really depends on if the diff was designed for the additive or not. These additives are usually friction modifiers. I would add if called for, and not add if not expressly called for.

I'd say with the Kubota oil you would be fine as they don't offer it seperate.
