Limberger Cheese

When I was 12 years old a guy in our neighborhood had a very beautiful pontiac. One night someone had rubbed limberger cheese all over the dash, seats, carpet. and roof liner, can you imagine the smell ??

Well the rumor was that it was a gal he had jilted a few days earlier.

The smell was so bad that I always cringe when I hear limberger.

When I was a kid my grandpa would come to visit and he always had "that cheese" with him.:p Mom made him keep "that cheese" in a cooler out in his machine (that's what he called his vehicles).:p She would not let "that cheese" into her house. :p And this is the face we made when granpa opened "that cheese". :p:p:p We loved grandpa and got a big laugh when he would eat "that cheese" out on the picnic table each summer.

I miss my grandpa and "that cheese". RIP, Lou. :( :):)

My parents were old world and very fond of it.

To this day I never tried it. I know they enjoyed it. RIP mom.

If it makes you shake it must be good for ya!

there is a small local restaurant/bar that is pretty famous for it's soup down the street from me--American Hotel in Lima, NY. Never had one but have seen the limberger sandwich on the menu. I've heard people order it (usually with onions liked mentioned above) but surprisingly have never noticed an odor coming from those tables!

Two pieces of pumpernickle rye, cut the cheese about 1/2" thick, 1/2" sliced Onion. Feed it to the dog and leave the house.

I'm just curious, do any of you enjoy Limberger cheese?

My Dad would eat it back in the day and I was always amazed someone would put something so foul smelling in thier mouth.

What is the best way to eat it?

Only in comedy sketches...:D

Like fine wine, art, and classical music, one must acquire a taste for it. So far, I haven't.
