Mowing at 101. I'm gonna add it to my bucket list!
Me too

Yesterday my brother mowed some at the farm. Later when he was mowing the yard, Dad went out to see why the tractor was missing, my brother had parked it in the shade. Then Dad wanted him to mow the back field next. Lol
It’s a start

added a better pic.

Flashback to 2012, and one of the old Pipe gates. This is a remnant of the old road back to the old log house at the back of our farm. Dad had used old gasline pipes to make a gate. A wire loop in the posts at each end held the pipe, it used 3 or 4 pipes, so to open the gate, you had to manually remove the pipes and lay to the side. What a PITA, but was used for infrequent places to get access. I think dad put barbed wire across them later. I recall 2 locations that had these. This one is now overgrown in multiflora roses so thick you can't get to it.

We used to have many similar gateways on the farm, two fence posts on each side with wood cleats nailed on each pair of post and wooden poles to slide in. We called them barways.

Same area in front of the house, big change from last pic from 1977. The lower field has grown up, used to be pasture that got mowed every year. I remember rabbit hunting in that field.

Saw one down in the high grass at dad's the other day. He saw it first and told me. Later I went to check to see if it was still there and it was. Head up watching for me as I approached. That time of year again. Jon

Update on the farm:
We are late getting everything mowed this year, even though we started earlier. Between the frequent storms, and then the heat, been difficult.
Waterline people want to extend the waterline agreement for up to 2 more years. Met with them monday, showed them if we extend, they need to move it over a little so we can access our trail below our pond. They were more than willing to do that, they even offered to mow that section with their skidsteer to open up access some.
The oil/gas pipeline area is now being seeded. Yesterday they dug up the stone from one work area, and removed the portapots. They started on neighbors property in the deep valley, working their way back to us, and also working towards us from the south end also.

Mowing the NE corner of the farm. This used to be pasture. This section was woods up until dad had it cleared in the 70s.

Just the bottom of one hayfield still not mowed. Some of the early mowing has been remowed. Still have a lot of pasture area to mow.

They made this stone road thru our field, I told them last week they can keep it there, but they said they have to reclaim it. The strip to right of excavator has been mowed twice, then once to the right of that. On the far right, after a fence row, was not mowed last year, and you can see how it grows up if left for a year.

Gorgeous bobcat! Around here, they have a broad variety of color variations. We used to see one that seemed blue because it had no brown in its' coat. We saw it raise several litters, so it didn't seem to be a hindrance.

All the best,

Peter

cropping a pic from video is pretty blurry, I tried to pause video at a place where it was more clear, but it was facing away. Storming at the farm right now.

Been popping woodchucks a lot lately and I like watching the local family of Bald Eagles feasting on their remains. When the carcass get small enough for them to carry it off, it leaves, never to be seen again. Being predators I guess an 'easy' meal is just that. Think I've dispatched around 30 so far this year. Had one get in the front fenced yard yesterday morning that my 17 HMR Savage took care of. With the scoped 17, it's usually one and done. Cheap ammo and deadly out to 200 yards.

I always know when it's a kill shot because their tails go straight up when it's a solid hit.

That's to bad you don't get to keep the nice road. When they put in the gas wells they built permanent roads to the wells. They said they are the best roads. Well they would be if it never rained. 30 years later they suck. Clay based. Great for temporary but after years of driving on them full of ruts
