Those blades work well on light brush but for cutting grass, they should be sharp. The edge I see is rounded and dull. Your blades are just ripping the grass instead of cutting so the grass builds up on the fronts. They should be "lawnmower blade" sharp. My flail uses the flat edge spoons and it cuts like a finish mower and takes down tough brush. The only place I get a little grass accumulation is in the chain link above the blade.

Those blades are brand new and that's the way they came. I was surprised that they were not sharp.

I thought the same thing about the dirt. The actual height adjustment is a top link mounted to the hinged hitch and the body of the mower. I have it hooked to my draw bar to raise and lower. Most of my property has high and low spots so a pull behind may not be the best. I'm really not going to use it much for any kind of lawn maintenance but just food plots and fields so I will be able to keep the cut a little higher hopefully.
The tires are holding air.

Back to the vacuum affect you were talking about way back I can certainly see the grass starting to lift even before the drum is over it.

It looks to me that the knives do not open up while rotating. I can easily spread them with my hand though.

Hello OzarksLandowner,

AH yes it is the dreaded mounting hole
issue rearing its ugly head again.

A Side Slicer Knife with a slotted mounting hole one half an inch long by one quarter inch wide allows
the knife to become an air foil and lift to the horizontal to allow the knife to slice the grass and
brush cleanly with no dirt digging.

The issue for Clean Cutter, Flail Master and the other manufacturers of these knives
is that they have to create the knives exactly to the specifications of the original knives.

AS I have mentioned previously the flail mower rotors are smaller in diameter and the
knives are longer in length and mounting stations are either D rings or weldment's on
the steel tube used for the typical Flail Mower Rotor except in the JD models where
they have the second weldment welded to the steel tube which is a machined and
modified block of tubular or solid steel to allow mounting the D ring straps.

Hopefully when flail mowers become the dominant way to mow all types of grass and
brush for the homeowner and mowing contractors they will start making Flail Mower
Rotors with a larger diameter welded pulley that will allow smaller knives to be mounted
on the rotor with a tool less knife hanging system that is spring mounted and slotted
knives can be used to thier advantage to create smaller clipping and recut the clippings
much faster.

First thing I saw in the photo was the little riveted ?serial number plate. Thought maybe you'd just riveted a bit of 16 gauge aluminum across a crack. Nice work with the pop rivet gun!!!

Doubt the pop rivets would help much lol. I just wish I could id the sucker from that plate.

Hello Ozarks Landowner,

Did you try rubbing a pencil over a piece of writting paper or legal pad paper to get the the numbers or what remains of them to ID it??

Almost time to welcome me to Flail Mower Nation. Received word that my Caroni TM1900, that I ordered in April, finally came in and is shipping out to me today! They have a few more in stock today, so get em while they are still there if you have been waiting.

yes I tried that with no luck. I can see where there was more numbers on it at one that were not stamped but they are no longer legible.

Are you saying that the knives that do not have the slotted holes will not open up when rotating?

I've been looking for a used flail, and came across this. It's a front mount. Can it be modified to sit on the 3 point. Rotation? I haven't seen this in person yet image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

A 3PT hitch could be salvaged from another implement and welded on without much trouble. However, the gearbox is mounted very low and I'd be concerned that it cannot be easily adapted for a rear PTO.

The real question is why don't you just get the whole rig? I've always wanted a front mount flail!

Yes, As long as the new beast is working for now I would not worry too much for now though.

Do not go anywhere near it, it was a municipal machine and it already had one gauge wheel arm broken as evident from the paint on the right wheel set.

The other thing is the gearbox as its being driven by the automatic transmission and this trackless vehicle is 160HP+-.

Go to Tractor House and Auction Time to buy if you want used.

I was riding past the local JD dealer one day,,, and I made an impulse purchase!!

2012-09-09140740800x498.jpg

I think it was my first ever AG impulse purchase,,, it is way better than the old 6 1/2 foot bush hog!!:D

I like that offset as well, but wondering how much work it would be to load and then center it on my trailer. Trailer is large enough and want to move together with tractor. Nice setup you have.

Will your mule raise the mower high enough to load it? But not B4 you disconnect the PTO SHAFT- if you have lower link extenders with the top link fully extended it would probably load and unload it with no issues if its a flat bed with open sides and be able to secure it on a front corner of the trailer.

You always want to back up the trailer so the greater weight is facing downward
when backing and driving forward down the ramp.

All you need is a signal flag of the road sign size and a tube with a threaded wood screw to hold it while transporting it and the flag will also give you perspective while mowing.

An even better idea is a bicycle flag with a whip spring "for mowing only".

That tractor alone is 7 1/2 feet wide,,, add the 3 feet of mower hanging out,,, that is 10.5 feet wide, maybe only 10 feet.
I never measured the combo.
Better use some 14 foot mobile home axles, and build a special trailer,,,

I brought the mower home on my 10' dump trailer,,, it hasn't been off my place since then,,,

If I get stuck helping someone mow,,, I will take the six foot cut Gravely,,,,

I just got the JD,,, it hasn't gone anywhere,,, yet,,,

I wouldn't hesitate to purchase municipal as long as I knew which one.

I think making the three point hook up would be the easy part. As stated, being the gearbox is low that could be the tricky part.

Now my main concern is, is that a 540 gearbox?

Since the three point has to go on the front, would you leave the wheels on?

Might be able to use a chain drive from the PTO shaft down to the gear box, depending on the direction of rotation desired.

The input now to the gear box is probably around 2000 RPM.

It's a 540 gearbox. I decided not to pursue a deal. To far away and to much tinkering for me.

I Saw the county out mowing ditches yesterday. Didn't get a great look but they were using a Alamo flail mower on the 3 pt hitch and had one on a boom on the right side. But the interesting thing was the tractor had a big Alamo sticker on the middle of the side of the hood, no other mfg logo I could see.

So a question for those in the know, did Alamo ever sell complete setups with tractors and relabel the tractors as Alamo tractors?
