For what it's worth, I have solved my issues from about 6 weeks ago. Simply a bigger tractor makes my Titan flail run consistently in all cutting conditions. I moved up to a Massey Ferguson 150 and it's a night and day difference.

Good tractor. We mowed and baled using a 165 years ago, with I had it now.

Amazing what that Perkins engine is capable of. My 231S uses the same engine but weighs considerably less than the 150 and handles the Titan flail without issue. What gear do you mow with?

No longer have that tractor. We mowed in what ever gear my
grandpa said too, 2nd comes to mind. Long, long ago now.

Depends on what I'm mowing, and I should preface it with, I have the 3 speed with a HI/LOW, so 6 gears. Pasture that I had mowed down a month ago, I was able to mow in 1H (or what would be 4th) today. Uphill in stuff that hadn't been mowed in months, I was running 2LO, otherwise I've been in 3LO.

I picked up a Mott model 60 Hammer Knife fine cut this month. Got it for a steal at $300, but replaced both cuttershaft bearings and the belt for a quick $300 more. There is a pronounced gear whine under load, so looking for suggestions on diagnosis and possible gearbox rebuild. It cuts very well, like a finish mower without the windrows.

Grease and gear oil checked? I would assume since you did the other repairs you checked but it's just a reminder in case ...

Yes, everything greased up. I would post a video with sound but not sure how to post it

Put it on Youtube and post the link.

Is the sound actually coming from the mower? It could be the PTO shaft or the Oliver's PTO Drive.

Can you get someone to walk beside the mower when it is under power and listen?

In my case I use the wife. She squawks but I tell her she hears better than me.

I don't here a gear whine but like I said I don't here that well. It sounds like "Clattering".

Let her drive the tractor while you do the walking and listening.

I have a 50" METANG flail mower, from what i've seen its quality is better than the Braber units and it cost 1/3 of the price. my 50" was only $1400 canadian! cut some serious grass and small tree's with it this summer on by BX1850 and only issue i had was a couple broken flails from hitting rocks and a big stump.

A small Braber flail in our area is well under $2000 USD. You can buy a 60" for less than $2000. No doubt that is much more than $1400 Canadian, but not near triple. But I will agree if the Metang works well, that is a bargain for sure.

Hello,
New member here with a dilemma. I recently acquired a John Deere 25A. It needs blades, rings, hangers. No big deal. Just call Flailmaster. Here's my problem. With everything removed from the rotor, it is not balanced. It has a heavy side. I removed the belt and spun it with a drill and it vibrated a lot. I don't think it's bent . Just not balanced. Is this normal?

Did it spin smoothly? Could it have bad bearings?
