The first one is solid magnesium. It measures 2 feet by 8 feet in length and weighs approx. 400 pounds. I tried to get a good picture of a polished corner but it didn't turn out well. The second bench was constructed years ago with 2x4's . It is 8 feet long and is bolted together with all thread rod. The wall side 2by is a 2x8 to allow sufficient area to be bolted to the wall. The legs are mortised into the top. This bench is extremely stable and takes a lot of abuse.
Couldn't open the pics but I wouldn't have thout a 2x8 magnesium bench would weigh in nowhere near 400 and to build a bench out of it one would ask ...why?

Dang. Sorry about the pictures. Ill try to repost them. The magnesium bench is about 9 inches thick with a honeycomb pattern underneath. I don't know why someone would want a magnesium bench either. I bought it from a machine shop that was going out of business.

Old 2 1/2 foot X 8 foot table w/ cast iron legs and frame and a 1" plywood top covered with a laminate. I got it from work when they down sized the machine shop years ago. Fit perfect along the garage wall.
I see some very nice shops in here. I need to get more civilized.

I couldn't either. But if I right clicked and picked "open link in new tab" I could see it.

Mag is non-sparking. Maybe it was used in a flammable area. OTOH, it's a flammable metal!

Well it's also soft, so maybe it was used so steel or aluminum parts could be dropped on it w/o damaging them.

Here's a couple pics of my combo work bench - steel work on left, woodworking in right. I will snap some better pics next time. The bench itself came out of the old AGCO plant, and is close to 5'x10', framed out of heavy steel.

I added a sheet of 3/8 plate steel on one half, and reclaimed some maple for the woodworking side.

Paid $50 for the table, and that included the old Wilton vise :)

I'd guess that the shop had some leftover stock and made a bench out of it. I worked in tool and die for 37 years and never have seen or heard of a magnesium bench. That bench is worth a bunch as scrap!!

300, the magnesium bench is a solid casting. All one piece except for the legs which are steel square tubing bolted on. It at one time had what looks like a bank of drill presses or other "like" machinery that were bolted to the top. Sorry for the problems with the pictures. I looked on another computer and they were there. I don't know what the problem is.
