Land Rake Owners Need Help!

Ok so I have cut down a area of sumac with the Piranha bar and I have run over the area with my box blade using teeth to rip up as much as possible but still need to do some more cleaning before I dump class 5 gravel, here is how it looks now.


I will also be prepping two more areas, one will be 35x75 feet for home and the other 32x32 feet for garage, both areas are basically low cut pasture grass, again I will rip it up with box blade teeth.

I would like to know if buying a 72 inch Land Rake would be worth it for finishing work, it will also be used on a 300 plus foot gravel driveway and cleaning yard of debris if needed. I think the GC1705 would handle a 72 inch land rake if I went with that one.

I have searched and best I come up with is reply’s to get one as wide or wider then your tractor when angled so you can crown driveway or cover wheel tracks, I need to know how it works other then that.

Would work just fine for that. Will sift roots out of soil and smooth the dirt. Landscape rakes are relatively light. The 6ft would be my choice also. I have a 7ft I acquired and pull behind a 2025R. It’s too long/wide to spin around while attached to tractor without hitting the tires but pulling it isn’t a problem.

If your plans are to gravel for a building base, you would be better to strip off all that top soil until you get down to soiled material and build it back up with gravel.

This ! You want to remove the top soil and get a decent base built up.

You probably won't get it much if any better than you have it in the picture. The landscape rake will sift some debris but it will pull a fair amount of dirt and leave the surface soft.

I have a 5' I bought for my old 855 and still pull it behind my 4310. I rarely tilt it. I get about the same results using it as I do with my grader blade for certain stuff like our driveway except the rake leaves loose lines.

Most of the top soil will be removed as I clean out the roots, I need to get it leveled as best I can before I get the class 5 dumped and spread out then I will let it settle all winter and spring and see how it looks after the thaw this spring.

I will be going to Fleet Farm and looking at a 72 inch land rake this weekend.
