Does anyone know offhand of the LA1065 found on the MX series tractors has a 3 position valve or 4 position?

Not exactly sure what you're asking but I think the valve is pretty standard for an FEL:
Up to down goes Float-Lower-Neutral-Lift
Left to right goes Curl-Neutral-Dump

Not sure what you mean by "3 or 4 position" but here are some pics of the LA 1065 valve and control diagram on my MX5800.

Hope this helps.

Let me ask another way, does the dump have a detent in it as in a dump-fast dump or just a single position which is fast dump.

Looking at that diagram it appears to be single position which don't make me happy at all but I guess I'll live with it if it is.

No, the LA 1065 on the MX5800 has no detent in the dump function. When fully open, the dump is moderately fast. The only detent in the valve is the float position of the loader arms. You may be referring to the "Quick Dump" feature on some of the Grand L series loaders. I had that feature on my old L3430 which had detents in both the dump and loader arm hyd. circuits.

My L3200 had a 3 stage regen only dump. Not really noted anywhere. My new L4060 explicitly notes in the manual it has a 4 stage with regen (fast dump) then power dump all the way to the right.

Based on that it's probably the cheaper 3 stage dump unless the manual says otherwise. Also isn't the MX the economy big machine like the 0 & 1 series in the Ls (unlike the 40 & series premium grands)? If so another pointer toward a cheaper 3 stage valve.

That's what I'm thinking wonder how hard it would be to change that valve out for a 4 position I'm really not going to like that at all I don't think.

The MX does have fast dump too but that's the issues it only has fast dump which leaves you with no control of the dump speed.

What's the point? I was looking at a diverter before upgrading to the L4060. But I determined a 3rd function would have been cheaper. I've never felt really concerned about bucket control. It was all about hydraulic angle for a SSQA plow for me.

Spreading mulch, compost or even ag lime evenly or even working gravel it's nice to backup slowly while dumping.

I'm not sure about the new MXs, but mine definitely allowed me to dump slowly.

The MX does have fast dump too but that's the issues it only has fast dump which leaves you with no control of the dump speed.

I may have misled you in my earlier post. The 3 stage valve on the MX has full proportional control of the dump function. It does not dump quickly all at once unless you want it to. I often dump slowly while backing up to spread gravel. The 3 stage valve simply lacks the quick or power dump function of the 4 stage.

Having had experience with both 3 and 4 stage FEL's, I see little difference in function. As a matter of fact, I found the 4 stage quick or power dump function to be a PIA at times. On several occasions, while spreading material by dumping slowly, I would accidentally dump the whole bucket at once. I realize this is operator error however and my own stupid fault.

There was only one occasion where I found the quick dump to be useful. I was carrying a heavy bucket load a bit too high for surface conditions and hit a rock. I was able to dump the load quickly and avoid a rollover. Another Quick dump factor I found annoying if not harmful, was the force of the quick dump action. It would slam the bucket against the stops with a great deal of force. IMO, repetitive use would put a lot of strain on the dump cylinders.

I realize these are my own observations. I'm sure the quick dump function has its uses for certain tasks and others here may have different opinions.

I don't have experience with any other loader but mine seems to dump plenty fast enough for me.

When you start dumping a full bucket, you have a lot of weight with a big mechanical advantage pulling on your cylinders. As seals wear, if hydraulics can't keep up it sucks in air & causes floppy bucket problems. And nobody respects a floppy bucket.

The solution is regen or fast dump. It puts fill hydraulic pressure to both ends of the cylinder. As the but end has more surface area than the rod end (there is a rod taking up a lot of space) it overpowers things to still extend. The extra fluid from the rod end can now go in to the but end of the cylinder filling it faster & preventing it from sucking in air.

Most machines these days use regen as the primary or only dump function because of this.
