L3940 Starting in -6F ambient

Wind chill does affect machinery. Elementary thermodynamics - cold air flowing past metal carries heat away faster than stagnate air. Eventually an equilibrium is reached and it no longer matters - just like a person, dead is dead. But we in the north put our tractors and trucks in shelter even if it isn't heated in order to make it easier to start the next day. My mother had this tale about how my grandfather took the battery out of my uncle's car (the baby of a 10 child family) when he got home at night and kept it by the stove. He then covered the front of the car with a tarp to retain as much heat as possible. The next morning he removed the tarp and installed the warm battery so my uncle would have no problem going off to wherever.

Got down to -13F ambient (-41F windchills) last Monday here in central Indiana night. Had to move 11" of wet heavy snow and drifts on Tuesday morning, so I took a video of my L3940 starting at -6F. Very happy, fired right up with just one cycle of glow plugs, no other starting aid (heaters, etc.). No engine vibration, and had more than enough power to move the wet heavy snow and drifts. Fuel was from local truck stop less than 1 month old, so it was #1 or a #1 mix. I also use Power Service white bottle aditive, and have 5w-40 synthetic in engine oil pan.
