I am a little confused on how many drain plugs I have in reference to changing the transmission/Hydraulic fluid. ( L2800 HST 4X4 ) My owners manual has three (3) pictures of drain plugs. (Page 65 ) First picture is not labeled, second is for 2WD, and third is for 4WD. The not labeled picture and the 4WD picture are showing me two drain plugs, different in each picture. Which ones do I use, or do I have four (4) drain plugs ? I hope you understand.

The best thing to do is to grab your manual, get on your creeper and go under there for a look and compare as it is confusing.

generally you have 1 for the engine oil, 1 for the transmission and 1-3 for your front end depending on the year of manufacture and the tractor model.

Actually the L models usually have two for the engine oil as the "oil pan" is arched over the front drive shaft and two to three for the HST. I need to crawl under mt M8540 as I think it may be the same.

Ok look on page 61 for the engine oil, you will have 2 for that. yours on the 2800 are vertical. now turn to page 65 and the first diagram show the 2 drain plugs on the bottom of the final reduction gear housings (rear axle drives) then on a 4 wheel drive machine you will have 2 more shown in the 4wd type drawing. one vertical and one horizontal. dont forget your filters, 1 oil filter, and 1 hydraulic filter and 1 Hydro-stat filter. On page 67 are the 2 drain plugs for your front axle. (only one is shown, but there is one just like it on the other side) It is not connected to the other storage of fluid in the tractor. so to fill up the axle, put fluid in the fill plug (up top) until it runs out the check plug (you open it up of course) then you stop. There is no dip stick in the front axle just the check plug. this is like a brush hog transmission.
hope this helps. get in touch with me if you dont understand

So I do have four (4) drain plugs for the hydro/trans fluid and two for the engine oil. Thanks.

When I bought the filters the dealer told me I have to clean the old magnet and install it onto the new filter. He said the magnet does not come with the new filters. I guess Kubota is trying to save money. Thanks Again.

That is a suprise. Can any other dealers comment wether this is actually the case??.

Last year was the last I bought a filter and it came with the magnet. I am disappointed if they quit including the magnet, as I use it on other filters. Just stick them to the bottom on the outside.

yep that is the way I see it too. oh and don't forget to check the little clutch housing water valve.. on the bottom of the clutch housing. you press it in and see if any water comes out. none ever has for me. It looks like a little ..ummmm .. thingy. some pictures of ones I have seen that others have posted show it bent. that is because they haven't taken good care to not bend it. mine is not bent but it is rusty!
I guess you have found the "sight glass" that is the hydro/tranny oil fill level. Took me a while. it is kinda hard to find, it would be right by your left heel on the inside as you sit on the tractor. There isnt any dipstick for the hydro/tranny. be sure your implements and your front end loader are flat on the ground for a good reading. and notice that the sight glass has a white background, so don't confuse this with the old "milky water in the fluid" problem. I haven't actually done my first 50 hour service yet, but I have looked around and under it a bunch. Found the 3 grease zerks under transmission area. 1 for each brake and 1 for the clutch shaft. and don't forget the front axle pivot zerk.

For that matter I found 3 zerks that the dealer just "shot some grease at" on the FEL.. 3 were dry as a bone with a mess of grease around them. When I took delivery of the tractor I glanced at them to see any signs of grease and saw plenty around them so "assumed" they were greased. Like a moron I did not really look down in the loader joints to see if grease was squirted out . Kept wondering why I was hearing squeaks some times. The problem was the dealer did not scrape the pretty orange paint off of the ends of the Zerks. soooo they never took any grease:mad:
Hopes this helps you and others that may read

Just a little side note. If you change the front axle fluid, it may not totally fill the front drive assembly on the first try. Drive the tractor a short distance and re-check the level.

Assuming the front wheels are already off the ground & tractor, the best way I've found is simply using a combination of axle tilt, steering side-to-side, and hub rotation... both to drain as much of the old as you can, and to help filling the new. You can spin the hubs in the air, which is the same as driving, only no load.

First time out I actually overfilled mine a little, some excess dribbled out the overflow now & then on a cross-slope.
