Why not ask in the Attachments forum for views? This is NOT a JD specific question.

Honestly I did as well, but I like the opinion of people with the same tractor as me to give me advice....call me crazy!

According to my dealer he says that Kuhn is a better tiller than Frontier and JD.....Frontier is more expensive as well, quoted $3800 for the RT1070

The 673 (Deere) is what I purchased for 3100 about three weeks ago, I would also consider the next larger size (about 80 inches?) for a 4720 too.
While talking with the dealer he did say that the Frontier tiller was slightly more money.

More than likely your dealer can buy the Kuhn cheaper than the Deere or Frontier and can't blame him for trying to make the sale. I doubt there is a lot of difference between the quality of these though.

I've had a Kuhn EL-32 for about 6 years. I run it behind a Kubota B2400. The quality is excellent and it's never given a lick of trouble. I used it hard for the first two years as I put my garden together and found all kinds of stuff buried out there in the middle of nowhere, chunks of concrete, re-bar, old metal pipe and chicken wire not to mention the expected stuff like rocks and roots. It did bang and bounce around but it chewed and spat out the concrete, roots and rocks, pretzeled the re-bar and pipe but I did have to take the bolt cutters to get the chicken wire off. When I first broke the sod I did have to make 2 or 3 passes to get it down to depth but only one every year since. In fact I don't use it very much these days.

I can't say how the spare situation is, that would depend on your dealer, but I've never broken anything or needed anything replaced even though I treated it pretty badly those first couple of years. It's a good, well made machine and worth every penny I paid for it. Apart from that it sure beats the **** out of walking behind that old Troybilt.

have you priced out Landpride, Deere or Frontier tillers? most dealers can get them in. I dont know about that brand model, some are cheap, some arnt at all lol. i got a 50" wide Landpride RTR15 or 10 i think for my 27hp Simplicity tractor and was almost $2,200, its a descent model, the bigger/wider ones are a little heavier but youll pay 3k+

What did you pay for your 673? How does the back door adjust with a chain? How is it performing? Quality?

Bought the 673 with a 4520 cab tractor the tiller was $3100.

Chain tail gates work okay, I use finish harrows anyway to get a good level seedbed. Have only about 8 hours on the tiller so far so good. It tills a lot deeper than my older one, I think this will help me with smoothing the yards. I would have gone with the wider unit but was concerned about getting in tight spaces, the tractor has enough power for it though.

It is so dry here that tilling just makes a thick dust cloud. Gotta get some rain to continue.

Kuhn is top-notch stuff. I have an old Kuhn that was borrowed (father and another guy bought it 30 years ago, other guy kept it and pulverized the old girl) and needs a lot of work, but was a great tiller before the other guy destoyed it. I also have a Kuhn flail mower, no issues with getting parts. I deal with ABC Groff in PA for parts, no problem, always fast shipment.

I did have a Howard 60" for a few years. Sold it, found it was too lightweight and wasn't heavy enough for what I was doing.
