I love everything about my new Kubota except for one thing: The treadle-type pedal for the hydro. I MUCH prefer the two pedal approach: One for forward, one for reverse.

Using the toe-lift method on the front half is very uncomfortable for anything other than brief spells. Using the heel is somewhat more comfortable but difficult to control speed accurately.

So, I'm noodling some ideas about installing a second pedal for reverse. No point in re-inventing the wheel tho, so I'm curious if anyone has come up with a modification for this issue?

Made something for a handicapped guy once but it involved using a handle instead of the pedal. Maybe you could do something similar if that would suit you.

What kind if pedal do you have? I find the style of pedal on my Grand L far superior to the Standard L pedal.

A rough sketch of my first idea.

A second pedal mounted to the right of the treadle with a roller that rides under the arm of the treadle. As you step on the new pedal, the arc of the roller arm lifts the forward pedal on the treadle the same as hooking your toe under it.

Gonna mock something up and see if it's practical. Don't want to make any permanent mods until I'm sure it will work.

When I was posed with the thought of buying a single pedal HST tractor I thought that simply building two pedals and hooking them into the stock linkage under the floor with morse push/pull cables would be the easy solution.

You might find some good Ideas looking at things produced for off road dune buggies Having built a few I have actually used pedals that could have worked very easy for me but am unsure if those off the shelf parts are still available as its been years.

Good luck!

There has been a thread or two on this and I don't remember anyone coming up with a really good design. We have several different Kubotas and have had three John Deeres with the dual pedals, both types work for me. My wife used JD for years and viewed our new BX with considerable skepticism, now it's hard to get her on a JD.
