I had a cab made and the only advice I can give is use a lot of bolts and good welds.

The on I had made rattled apart in short order and was a waste of money. You can't imagine how much how much shaking there is on a tractor till to see weld break.

You might look at a B21 or L35 that has 4 post ROPS with a roof. Many rental yards will have a B21. I suggest you use something stronger than 1" tubing for the vertical posts. I would hate to see it crush down on top of you. I am not sure if I could bend a cab built out of 1" tubing to get out of it but I am pretty sure it would bend when you push the tractor up against a tree or if you rolled it. I have run the roof of my B21 into trees several times.

Depends on how involved you want to get, I spent the entire summer building mine and still have a few things to do to make it complete in my eyes.

I do not have any experience with roll cage design. But in my experience with supporting loads vertically or horizontally the width of the material is much more important than the thickness. For example I believe it would be more difficult to bend 1/8" thick 2" square tubing than 1/4" thich 1" square tubing. This is certainly true for I beams and Angle with static loads.

im not concerned about it rolling its just to support itself and the snow on top of it it is coming off in the summer when i use the tractor in the woods witch is when i am concerned about it rolling. its all gonna be one piece that i can back in the barn and unbolt and lift off. i might look into useing something bigger but right now i wanna try to stick with the steel i just bought that i cant take back

well i started at 6 PM and got this much done till now [3 AM] its coming pretty good i think. FYI im 15 years old and taught myself how to weld and i did that hole thing by my self at the same time im rather sick with a cold but im one of them country boys that it would take hand cuffs to keep me sitting down and doing nothing. :)

and yes i am cutting holes for windows in those. the hole front in the square of the tubeing is gonna be plexy glass a side window on each side and one on back a old heater core and fan from an old car is gonna heat it. and many many hours of sheat metal work to fill all the little gaps and holes. and a door with a spring to keep it closed with as best of a seal as i can get. the front and back are gonna have wipers with just a little round crank at the sealing of the cab to turn them. i have lights to go on top. its gonna be insalated in the gap of the steel tubeing is gonna be full of insalation and then some 1/2 inch ply wood on the inside. so far i have about 20 hours and $300 into it but thats for everything other then the glexy glass and thats for all the cutting blades welding wire and grinder wheels to make it and the ply wood steel and bolts. im going all out to try to do the best i can cause im trying to get a little fab work business going and i want something to show to prove my work.
