Tractor
kubota L1801DT
HI all

I have just purchased an old tractor to do some slashing on our 16 acre property

It is a kubota L1801 DT

I have never owned nor driven a tractor before and would like some feedback as to where i can learn about using the different gears both for the tractor and the slasher that is fitted on the pto

I look forward to reading the forums on Tractobynet and maybe getting some answers to questions I wil have in the future

Welcome Chris

The 1801DT should be similar to the L185DT made in 1983-4 timeframe. I had an L185DT and its a stout tractor that can do a lot. I would imagine you have a 4 or 5' slasher?

Several things - it has a two speed PTO 540 and 1000 so with the rotary slasher / brush hog I would suggest using the 540 speed and running it in 4th Lo gear to start especially if you have a 5' cut.

You have a hi/lo transmission so 8 forward and 2 reverse speeds and depending on what you are cutting 3rd or 4th in lo range should be OK - this is trial and error as you dont want to bog down a diesel by going too fast.

Good luck and post some pictures of your machine!
