Oil & Fuel Kubota DEF

This is exactly why I'm looking to buy a pre-DEF Kubota for my first tractor.

DEF is only used on Tier IV machines over 75 hp. Between 25 and 75hp no DEF, it's just a DPF or a DOC (or neither in the case of Mahindra).

I should be using the term "pre-emission crap". :)

I remember the air from those times....not good.

+1

As much as I like our little Ford I'm looking forward to swapping it out with something that has a good DPF so I don't feel like I've been walking behind a smoker for a few hours after each time I run it.

As someone who traveled through LA more than a few times in my childhood, driving through that smog will give you a bit more perspective on why these emissions controls are being phased in. I don't think we'll ever see diesel go away but I'm all for technology that makes them safer and causes less deaths from lung cancer or other emissions related deaths.

The latest large excavation equipment and farm tractors are so clean and quiet. I do understand a homeowner (like me) that may not put many hours on the equipment, might not want the complexity of the new tractors. You don't have the EGR problems or DEF issues, but, I'm glad we have evolved from the 70's technology.

My 37hp Branson with just a DPF (and mechanical fuel injection) is far cleaner than my old 17hp Kubota B7100. If I left it running while changing an implement the Kubota would fill the barn with smoke in a few minutes and have me gagging. If the wind was blowing the wrong way while chipping I'd be breathing diesel soot. The Branson does not do that. It is smokeless and nearly odorless. After a year and a half and 130 hours I've been pleased with it's emissions system.

I must be different... but I love the smell of diesel exhaust.

Gas engines are yuck!

If we were all driving tractors to work I would understand the emission equipment but I don't think the diesel exhaust from a tractor that might run 100 hrs a year will be an issue. I'm still looking for a 2013 Kubota or later.

Some people are driving tractors 8-12hrs a day on the farm or at work, so clean is nice.
