If you are set on the sub compact size, you might want to take a look at the Massey GC series. The BH on the Massey is a bit bigger (a little more reach and the bucket is quite a bit deeper). Both the BX and the GC are sub compacts, but the GC is just a smidgen bigger, at least to my eyes when I was buying. Massey has 0% for at least 60 months or a free mower offer.

The thumb (a dealer add on) can be folded up flat to the dipper when not in use.

That looks nice! I think we are pretty much set on Kubota. (thanks to TBN)

Keep us up-to-date and let us know what you bring home.

We have 30 acres at one place and 15 at another. a BX(anything) would just be way too small

In fact, we were offered a really good deal on the M59 ... but, I have no way to haul it. :(

Yes, I will keep all of you up to date. We are going for a test drive tomorrow and then we'll decide which model and order shortly. (if all goes as planned) Then I'll defiantly give a report and pictures when we actually get it. It is funny when we went to the Kubota dealer for parts for our chipper which they also sell, and we saw the BX (and its price tag) and said "it would be really nice if we could get one of these one day". It seemed like a far off dream and now were are getting ready to order (hopefully).

Welcome I am in SEPA too my tractor lives elsewhere

I you can spring for the 25 it will do a lot it just takes time
Digging the bamboo shouldn't be an issue
Pond how much time do you have? I'd higher that out or rent a larger machine.

I trenched my well line at my cabin 1/2" dirt and 40" of shale.
Undug the 1000 gallon septic tank and re planted it.
Buried 1200 gallon cistern were septic tank was
I have to admit the original hole was dug with a large track loader but digging it back out with with my 23 with out damaging it (plastic tanks) took some time but it did it.

tom

The bamboo is out of control, so that will be an ever lasting project. The fill from the pond we want to fill in was all just made into a hill nearby so that should not be an issue.

Compactractorfan,

I agree with your assessment - i stopped at a dealer this week in NY and checked out the new models, and my gut assesment is the BX25 is one tough little mule, and the B series 2620-3300 were not quite as stout all things considered, subframe, price, performance etc.

IMO the L3240 or similar L series is a rugged machine but for your needs/wants with a MMM and BH the BX25 has very good #s for the size - lift capacity 745LBS and on the BH @ 1900LBS.

I've got the little B21 TLB and it is a workhorse that compared favorably to the L3130 capacity when I purchased back in 2000.

Yeah, I don't think we want to get anything bigger than a BX.

If the BX size tractor fits your needs, the BH is a pretty reasonable deal in the BX25 package. We tried a BX24 and it was tough to pass up on that package, but ended up going with a B without the BH. Because of our other property, we needed a bigger tractor for it. But to add a BH to my B is $7K. Sounds like a good plan to me too.

As far as trying out, my wife and I test drove 3 different sizes, each driving each of them twice. The dealer never rushed us a bit and even offered to get the BX24 out of the showroom, but the BX2350 we were driving gave us enough of a feel. The tractors are very easy to operate. Try them at various RPM's to get a good feel, but you will love it. If you buy, make sure they give each of you a hat.

So, since I'm new to tractors what different rpm's do you use for different tasks. Oh, and I'll be sure to remember the hat.

Tractors have a PTO speed. This is the engine RPM that the power take off reaches its designed rpm, 540 or 2500. Especially for mowing, you would need to operate at or near that rpm. In the case of these Bx's it is 3200 rpm. So that is reving it up to nearly the full rpm it will go. But you will control the speed going forward or backwards with the HST pedals. For other things like the FEL, it is what ever you need to get it done. But usually a lot lower like mid 2000's.

While you are trying them out, if they have a small B like a 2320 or 2620 available, you might want to give one of them a ride just for the feel. They do achieve their HP at a lower RPM, 2800, so not as much reving them up.

I don't know if the 25 has a tac but the hp is rated at just about full throttle.
mowing full throttle adjust ground speed to mow load/quality.
backhoe start about 1/3 toi 1/2 throttle it slows down the movement till you get a"handle" on using it if you are a gaming kid like my son it only took a day or 2 till he was better than me!
don't worry about running them at full throttle (after its broken in) they are made to do it.

Thanks, I knew they had the PTO speed, I just wasn't sure about other tasks. So, can you just drive around in idle? I don't think I'll be driving anything other then the BX25 they brought in for the test drive. On second thought do you think they will let me drive since I'm 15?

Yeah, I don't know how good I'll be because I'm not the gaming type.;)

Yes you can drive it at idle rpm, but it will be going pretty slow no matter how far you push the pedal down. The forward speed is a combination of engine RPM and which range you are in and how far you push the pedal down.

I believe on the BX25 you have to purchase the arms for the 3 pt hitch in a kit. You would need them if you take the BH off and put something else such as a rear blade on it. So check on the cost of that. As another mentioned, to remove snow, you will want something in addition to the FEL. You could put a snowblower on the front or a front blade. Where I am we don't get a huge amount of snow, so I use a rear blade and the FEL.

If you are sure you will want/need a BH, buy it now as a BX25. It is a good buy and the other BX's really aren't built to have one added. When I bought the B2920, it was the same price as the the BX24, each with a FEL and MMM, but I did not get the BH. At that time I decided I needed a bit bigger tractor and adding the BH to mine isn't a problem except for the money part.

I don't know about driving as a 15 year old. It has been a long time since I was one. But I would think they would let you. Have fun. I am off to mow on our other property. The tractor is already on the trailer.

I'm in Southeastern PA.

I can confirm the tedious nature of moving snow with the FEL, but we don't get much where I live. However I spent a full day last winter clearing the Streets in my neighborhood with mine. It worked beautifully. Neighbors all thought I was the hero of the day. No one could have gotten out or in due to the unusual volume we received in 1day. You can't go wrong with the BX25, but size does matter.

I went through the same thing a few months ago after buying 2.5 acres up in Wellsboro Pa. I started looking at riding mowers. Then I proceeded to lawn tractors...then I went through the BX series and ended up with a BX25.

I've used the BH to dig up a few stumps under 8" in diameter with no problem at all. I have a few 20"+ stumps I need to tackle and I'm pretty sure the BX25 can handle it given enough time. :D

I have a 60" MMM and it does a great job on the 2.5 acres. The first time I used it, it took 5 hours because I went pretty slowly and wasn't sure of the rolling landscape (old pasture land). Last weekend I felt a lot more comfortable and mowed the whole 2.5 acres in less than 3 hours. I went over some areas again because I just wasn't ready to stop using the BX25 for the day......

Good luck.

So, can you mow in high range? Yes, we are planning to get the three point hitch. We were also thinking about a rear blade in the future for the snow, but I'm sure the FEL will beat shoveling which we do now.;)

Yeah, stumps is one of the first things I want to tackle if we get the BH. backhoe.

The BX2660 and BX25 is really the same tractor except for built in subframe for BH and rear power beyond ports. It really should be a no brainer for getting a BX25 if price is not an problem. I have the BX24 on 2 acres as well for snow clearing, mowing, BH work, rototilling, firewood, etc.
I have a rear blade as well and I personally don't like it with snow clearing since I get too much here. I ended up modifying a truck blade to attach to the FEL arms instead.
