Korean made Deere

When Toyota, and Honda build a car for the US market these days it is most likely built in the USA using just a small precentage of Japanese made parts more than the typical Ford, or Chevy uses. The last time I saw any numbers it was in the single precentage range. I heard that Toyota has something like 200,000 US employees.

GM has 68,500 direct employees vs. Toyota's 28,700 (per Toyota's press release below), I can't find GM's number including dealers, but I can guarantee that it is more than Toyota. Toyota loves wrap themselves in an American flag but the simple fact is they still import about half of there vehicles from outside the USA. The big three do import so cars, but they do a lot of engineering here and even the Mexican made Ford Fusion has a US built engine. Toyota has been covering up there safety and quality defects for quiet a while, I wouldn't touch them on moral principles. They just paid three $16M fines for covering up safety defects, and ultimately the most serious issue with untended acceleration was not the recalls, but the fact that they covered it up. You may want to do Google Toyota ball joints, engine sludge and frame rot and see what they don't want you to know.

The Level Field Institute

... this is getting off topic, but I have a Saturn Vue (aka Chevy Equinox) and my wife has a Toyota RAV4. Both are about as apples to apples as you can get... and my GM is a flying piece of crap compared to her Toyota. Buy the best.. where its made became a moot point years ago.

Well said! The Toyota Camry is the most American vehicle in the US!

What matters is that companies build things in the US. Manufacturing is what made the US king.

Here's a run down of the Toyotas made in the US.
Camry, Avalon, Venza, Tundra, Tacoma, Sequoia, Highlander, Sienna.
In Canada they make the corolla, matrix, rav 4 and Lexus RX 330.
Needless to say.... Almost all vehicles sold here are made here!

You can remove Corolla and Matrix from the list, Toyota shutdown that factory last year.

Here is the list of imported Toyotas:
Lexus ES330, GS300/430, GS450h, GX470, IS250, LS460L, LX470, RX350, RX400h, SC430, Scion tC, xA, xB, xD, iQ, Toyota 4Runner, Yaris, FJ Cruiser, Corolla, Matrix, Highlander Hybrid, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Prius, RAV4,

You are incorrect sir and so is your list!

The Corolla and Matrix are made in Cambridge, Ontario.

The Highlander and Highlander Hybrid are made in Princeton, Indiana.

And the Rav4 is made in Woodstock, Ontario.

When did we annex Ontario? You are correct the Highlander was moved to Indiana for the 2010MY.

All I know is when something on my green tractors break I can have the parts by 10 am the next morning. Try doing that with your red, orange, blue, or white equipment....

I would never make that broad a statement. Deere like everyone else drops the ball on parts.

I guess my question is if the Green stuff is so great why is so much of it breaking!!!:confused2:

Stuff breaks, regardless of brand. Most every brand offers quality. Not every brand also offers high resale values, great parts support, online access owners/service manuals, dealerships in most markets, a full line of equipment, etc. Some brands offer more of these attributes than others, but no other brand offers them all like Deere. Certain ones may be more important to some customers than others, and that's why we don't all buy the same thing.

Why because we use them for more than mowing yard.... Everything from digging ditches, snow removal and removing turbines from air planes. Stuff happens and it is nice to know that it can be fixed within 24 hrs.... Not always the case for my friends over in camp orange, blue and red. It is no bog deal when you do not need it right away, but when they are an integral part of your business it is important.

Have always loved how quick people are to bash Deere.

As a company that sells 8-10 major lines of equipment, a brand being domestic or foreign has nothing to do with availability. We see bigger problems with product that was outsourced having long parts delays and crazy prices, and from companies unwilling to make the investment in having parts on hand. The complex international relationships involved in this business make parts availablity much more complicated than saying one brand is better than another. For example, CNH makes the hay equipment parts 30 minutes away form us... they are cheap and easy to get... however if a "Made in the USA" / Shibaru compact needs a rarely used wiring harness you'll either need to wait a bit or pony up for air freight.

All that said. Our fill rate for having parts that our customers need in our own stock floats around 90% so I don't think I'd say any vendor is really doing a poor job.
