Kioti Broken in Half

I am generally conservative operating machinery, but last year I snapped off the 3 point hitch lower arm connection point on the tractor case. I was pulling fence posts (set in concrete) with the 3 point and a drawbar between the lower arms. I bent the drawbar on one post that wasn't budging, so I used 9k rope with just the lower arms. Big mistake. The rope was pulling inward, drawing the pinned arms together, and it snapped the cast case connection point.
That cost me almost 2k. On the plus side, even considering that expense and a new ssqa hydraulic auger, I still saved over $2000 over having the fence professionally installed.

I

I was trying to pull a 6" diameter oak tree out of the ground with a fel mounted post puller. Push, pull and lift. It was probably the 100th tree I pulled. It just caught up with me and the tractor. Its pictured with a 3 point adaptor attached

Sounds like a completely normal day around here…lol
Sometimes you only have the pieces of equipment you have and need to finish the job. I relate to someone who gives it his all with what he’s got.
We were taking out brush and smaller trees like that for a customer about 10 years ago. He would keep adding more clearing as we opened up his property. Towards the end, he asked us to take a few more trees down like that and rip out the roots and small stumps. We were using a little M9540 and HD forks. I would dig the forks slightly under the stump on either side, drive forward to the back of the forks and pop them out. Got to the last few bigger ones and bent loader arm at front cross tube. Unknowingly, the customer called local dealer and paid him to have it fixed for me. I refused to accept payment and told him it was my fault and part of the risk of the job.
He became a lifelong customer and always “overpaid“ us.

We would really really like to know what that something was. We are not going to laugh at you or try to make you feel bad, but if you mention what that "something" is, it can help many other people that might be doing that very something.
James, there will most definitely be those who will condemn his actions. But those in the know don't pay much attention to those.

I use the snot out of my Grapple and have had my back tires both off the ground many, many times. But I try to be smooth about it.

I too would like to hear the story as a learning tool.

I would add an FEL mounted tree/post puller as the second attachment that's hard of a tractor and FEL. There are situations where you can apply an extreme amount of leverage on the FEL and tractor.

I built my puller several years ago and have used it a LOT.

What most guys don’t know and will find out later is overloading the tractor/loader will likely result in future front axle bearings & seal failure. Plucking out huge trees with small tractors is satisfying, but you might pay later. I still do it anyway.
Get er dun

Here's not something you see every day. Browsing facebook and saw this.

Not sure what the backstory is.
The guy that did is was using the tractor instead of a bulldozer or skidder. His dealer and local mechanic both told him he was crazy and would probably break something but he decided to destroy the tractor anyway! He's posted it on Facebook with several different stories including the some of them about how he high-centered it on a rock, his wife drove into a tree, and the one he got made fun of the most on his how he babied the tractor since new. His local mechanic showed up on that post and called him out!! lol:eek:😂

The paint on the FEL is in much better shape the tractor. I'm guessing it's new. Grapple looks oversized too. Maybe FEL was altered to lift more then tractor could handle

Tough to tell from the pics, but it almost looked to me that the frame had been previously welded where it broke in half.
Not sure, but the frame at the point of separation is far less structurally sound than about 2' back.
That kind of looks cut. Maybe disgruntled spouse....

i had a dozer quite a while ago that had a repaired cracked frame. it is not too hard to do considering the amount of leverage that is constantly put on a frame.

That should not have happened on any tractor.

Looking back through PTSG's Pics

Not absolutely sure but, It appears that the op had no counterweight on the rear of the tractor. In this case that might be a good thing.
if the FEL is strong enough and the tractor op say, starts trying to pry out a 10 foot diameter boulder that only a bit is above ground with that long tine grapple and manages to get the rear tires off the ground it would have concentrated even more force on that front sub-frame, front axle and bearings.
What most guys don’t know and will find out later is overloading the tractor/loader will likely result in future front axle bearings & seal failure.
It t took me a while to learn that when digging with most FELs once you release the bucket/lift valves to a neutral position, there really isn't any safety PRV in the system- other than bursting a hose, blowing a seal or something more expensive Giving. I was lucky and in a couple cases popped a hose and in the other the seals failed.

Like Hay Dude says, in addition once those ball bearings are free from the destroyed cage that "used" to keep them in the race, they are now free to roam and show those weak kneed gear teeth just how much stronger 52100 chrome steel bearing material is.

Not worth $32K in that condition.

The way the tractor broke seems opposite of what would happen with too much weight in the FEL. It would bend upward in the middle.

Here at TBN, a World fat with SCUTs, CUTs and Utility tractors, most with FELs, front axle/bearing failure is very rare. Definitely more rare than bent/broken FELs. Probably more rare than broken tractor chassis.

If it had "bent" and stayed intact you would see upward bend in the middle. In this case, it broke completely apart. Gravity took over and it fell to the ground in the middle.
