is a large Gothic castle founded in the 14th century by Charles IV. The castle served as a place for safekeeping the Empire coronation jewels, holy relics and other royal treasures.
It was under siege several times but it was never taken - not even by husites.

This is interesting, the small round tower is the well. The well is 260 feet deep. Now to get the water up they used a hampster wheel with space for two men. Men got in and run the wheel and every time pulled up bucket with 19 galons of water.

That is quite the place. I love the old buildings as much I as love old tractors. In the early 80's my wife and I spent two weeks in Ireland. Castles all over the place We even stayed in one renovated to a hotel for three days.

I can't remember the name of the one we stayed at. My wife would have it in her scrapbook but I am at work and can't look it up. The best I have every taken was to Ireland. And I want to go back some day.

I still remember the road signs that said "Loose Chips" Kind of like our "Loose Gravel" They called them chips.

Those European castles are beautiful. We took two month-long driving trips in Europe just to visit the castles and cathedrals.
