[Maui farmer wannabe]

Aloha! Lifelong dream to farm and finally getting started at 63. Have 40 acres of gently sloping land with 6 acres already in Macadamia nut trees. Would like to have a few dairy cows and do vegetables and fruit trees. Still struggling getting proper water supply since the land came without any legitimate source. Looking now for a tractor to start plowing and pulling the property together.

Demographics

In 2007, only 45% of farmers claimed farming as their principal occupation and a similar number of farmers claiming some other principal occupation. The number of farms in the U.S. stands at about 2.2 million.
