Rebuilding a carb on a saw before shipping it out. Can see where some fines had gone in over the years too.

Diaphragms were getting stiff. Symptoms would show up in cuts.

I have three Echo chainsaws; two are fairly new (CS-490) and one I bought off a friend that's probably 10 yrs old. All three work fine.

However, I 'm wondering how often you should replace chains?

I use a Stihl chain sharpener after each use of the chainsaw. Two of the saws weren't cutting that great (after I sharpened them) and the chains were about a year old. I do hit dirt on occasion since I'm felling trees and try to get the stump down low.

I had two new chains so replaced the two that weren't cutting well.

I'm wondering if I my sharpening skills need improving or chains just need replacing?

I run them till there isnt anymore cutter left almost.

Also as cutter is moved backwards from sharpening you need to be lowering your raker down too.

Doesn't the Stihl chain sharpener automatically file the rake while sharpening the cutter?

Dont know if I showed all of this. Working on these older jred is so much fun. Things I have found out changes for year to year. 4 different clutch covers and brake parts on series.

Bought the husky 272 to get some parts from. Then found some NOS jred parts like brake band etc.

The grey husky handle fit better as far as room for hand. The black handle ended up being for a super and made less room for hand. Didnt like that.

Black inner cover was for the super too not for the champ cover. So came up short.

Found a outer spike and while I was at it. Bought this full wrap for it too.

Figure they are hard enough to find. Better grab it just in case.

Oh that brake handle in black above was to close to my liking. A dealer of them told me that was prob a brake handle for a super which was different then super II and champ brake handles.
So took it back off and went with a clack one I had in parts bin. Much better now.

Paint can wait IMHO. Full wrap has enough on it anyway. Half the one that lost almost all of the paint.

Going to piece it together in one post from yesterday.

Now to redneck me some full wrap brackets to work.

Got my pieces cut to make brackets.

To cool my poulans that use a lot of 2 series parts happens to have the full wrap fasteners. 1 in each saw. Good thing I have a bunch of parts saws on hand. These things list for $5.79 each through husky. The longer ones.

First try rednecking. Used a old 2 series inner spike to make a strong outer brace deal.

Good enough for now.

Whats left of a inner 2 series spike. Then grind to fit slot.

Poulan 415 quad port 65cc that was sold with 24" new. Sold it to a friend needing a saw to run a 24" on yesterday.

This saw can also take the 71cc 77cc 83cc cylinders.

Back in the day I had a Poulan 3400 counter vibe and it was a great saw as long as you didn't shut it off. It was very bad to vapor lock you had to put gas in it while it was running. After hearing what you guys are saying maybe they are sought after today but I sure didn't care much for it back then.

3400 was bare bore 56cc. They dont bring much. 50-75. Even the more desired one for collectors sold as a 3.0 but really 3.4 only brings 100-125 PHO.

3800 bare bore 61cc
3700 chrome bore 61cc
4000 chrome bore 65cc

Those 3 above more wanted then a 3400 3.4. But the 3400 parts can be used for others. It is actually worth more in parts alone.

I sold this 3400 runner to a local for 50.

Never ever seen one of these varpor lock myself and owned many. Maybe a bigger issue?

That look when a local sunk the fresh 670 build in pin oak. Just 20" buried in a 26" piece. Only on 2nd tank and set rich still.

Took from video and it was priceless the way he snapped his head around.

Haha, this the same saw? Look.

The 670 champ I redid. Then put a full wrap on it after I found one when I wasnt looking. Was just looking for a outer oem spike at time.
Not really liking this style full wrap myself. But has it's purpose. Like the 372 full wrap set ups better.

G288xp parts have been copied and released now. Can get the orange and blue high top set ups.
They sell whole orange kit or all blue prebuilts.
Help those folks that have the old saws just setting but cant get parts.

The FT high top 288 is just like the OEM ones with 2 places for air. Come in blue and orange.

The other aftermarket ones being sold out there are like the eliminator high top ones with only the fly area for air.

Just to show for those buying.
