Hello All,

I recently picked up a used JD quick hitch and 54 plow for my 425. The hitch and blade had sat outside for most of its life but it nice and straight with minor surface rust. Got it home and started taking the hitch apart to clean and replace parts as needed. The hoses are dry rotted and the fittings on the cylinders are rusty. I had new hoses made and picked up all brand new fittings while I was at it. My question is when installing the new fittings do I need to apply some kind of sealant to the threads of any or all fittings?

Thanks

Be very careful to not let any of the tape or sealant get into the lines. Keep it away from the openings.

Regular "plumbers tape" is NOT recommended for use in hydraulics. Most of the fittings on those lines for the QH are JIC or ORB type IIRC anyway, and do require any type of sealant anyway. Only NPT fittings require it...

NEVER use tape on hydraulic cpnnections.

ALL your hydraulic connectors will have o-rings, buy new o-rings. Hydraulics never seal with tape, always with o-rings.

That's only correct if it's a mb (oring) type fitting.
