Hi Guys,

My buddy's 990 with 312 hours stored in heated garage won't start. Put in a new battery and removed dash panels, key switch and all wires are connected. Cleaned ground, removed starter and had it tested-they said it was fine. Put back in and just a loud click. Hook starter directly to portable jump starter and turns over. Hook wires back to starter and not turn just a loud click. What are we doing wrong here?

First I would suspect is you are missing getting a good connection on battery cables.

312 hours over how many years?

Hi,

The Deere is a 2003 model so he has used it very little and when he shut it off last week plowing snow it would not turn over.

You need to measure the voltage from the key switch to the solenoid. If less than 10v the solenoid may not engage. Resistance builds up in the safety switch wiring over time draining the power. You may need to install a relay to get the full 12v to the solenoid.

Possible the starter switch is corroded and not making good contact.
