John Deere 870 gauges issue

My JD 870 has a mysterious issue. The fuel and temperature gauges only work when there has been rain or the tractor is wet. I assume this is a ground issue but can't figure out where to find the problem.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

That is one odd problem you have there for sure. You may be correct on the ground problem-no way to find out without starting to take everything apart.

G'day steve run a small jump wire from the eng block to the -ve side of the battery and if the temp gauge works then you have an earth ( sorry ground ) prob but if both gauges are not working then i think you have a voltage supply problem, probably a voltage stabiliser behind the dash and it is getting damp air in it to make contact. Hope this helps

Well I cleaned out the battery compartment and cables. The fuel gauge is working but the temp qauge isn't. The jumper on the negative to the chassis doesn't do anything. I am baffled?????

G'day steve take the wire of the coolant sender and short to ground with the ign on engine off and the needle should go to hot if it does then sender no good see how you go
