John Deere 2240 part #

I recently picked up a John Deere 2240 4WD with serial # over 350000. I need to replace the part that connects the front tires to one another so the track/steer together. I have looked and looked for this part with no luck. I have a manual and it calls out the part as "tie Rod". With a part number of AR54637. This is not the part I need. I odered that and it was way to short. I believe that was the "drag link".
I need the 60" or so long rod with ball joints at either end that connect to the spindle arms on each side. If it is the "Tie Rod" I sure can't find one or the part number. Here's a picture of the rod... It's bent and being held up with bungee cords.
Any help would be appreciated!

Mike, I believe this is the one you’re after, not that the part number has been superseded

Due to orientation of tie-rod ends & retaining nuts (down vs up) I think AL33289 which subs to AL38369 is incorrect part #. I searched 2240 parts catalog for similar tie rod end in OP's photo with no success.

Can you please post a photo of your tractors serial # tag? If you don't want to post it online please send it to me in a PM. I was employed at local JD dealer from '65-'87 & have more experience looking up JD part #s that the average tractor owner & your tractors front tie rod has my curiosity aroused. I located this similar tie rod that is on a 2040S & 2140 but I'm not 100% sure it will fit a 2040. AL37259 subs to AL178018.

The serial Tag definitely shows your tractor is a 2240 MFWD. But I don't understand why the tie rod I posted part # for isn't shown in a 2240 parts catalog.

I believe this will work. I measured and from what I can figure out, this will fit. Obviously the one on my tractor is a bit shorter... but due to the bends.
I just ordered one that can be returned if needed. Thanks again!

I know nothing about the part numbers and such, but if you just turn that shaft upside down - it sure looks to me like it will work just fine. I think it's just the visible picture that's confusing.

AL37259 specifications I located states length @ 56.25'' while AL38639 is 21''

Well,
That one was too long and the ball joints were too big to fit in the spindle arms.

I'm at a loss. Just frustrating that the part is not readily in print in manuals or on-line.
And now, I've got her apart and can't move her. Lol.
Time for a beer and some shucked oysters.

What was part # that ball joints were too large? Have you considered making your own part with new ball joints that fit?

This one (AL78018 )is the one that was too long/large.

And yes, I may be about to find the ball joints and weld something up.
