I tried the pulling the timing cover and the tractor did run so i cleaned the check valve again and the tractor is now running for at least 15 mins. So do i still need to have the pump rebuilt because it was some type of material that the valve was plugged with possibly the fiber drive pieces maybe?

I've seen those IP run for several yrs with deteriorating drive rings but you're just postponing the trouble & expense. With repair prices escalating every yr I think you'ld be money ahead to get it repaired now.

Yes it was a piece of material stuck in the check valve on the top of the fuel pump ended up having to eliminate the check valve because i couldnt find a new one so it doesnt start as easy as it ounce did but at least it will run now

820 IP check valve is JD part # R36535 CONNECTOR,WITH CHECK VALVE ADD 29.72 US. Or you could probably get it from IP parts supplier.

Though years later, thought a note might add value to someone. Had the same issue with an 820 diesel (German/French). Ran OK (always had a little skip at high rpm; figured it was injectors so didn’t much worry about it) before a filter change then would only run a min or two. Swapped filters, checked fuel from tank, checked pressure from the ‘lift pump’, checked flow through filters, checked check valve on top of roosa inj pump. No luck. Gave in and had the roosa pump rebuilt and installed new injectors. Done! Runs like a top. Was not a cheap date at ~ $2500. Timing was odd but hey, never know.
