We have 180 hours on our 14-5085e
Only issue so far is the fuel gauge quit working.
Brakes are good.

Loudon, thanks for the reply, and I hope you can get the 3 pt hitch problem fixed. Mine started gradually slipping down a few months ago, but it didn't come back up. The friction control on the levers just needed to be tightened up and that fixed it. I thought it was strange that I had to adjust that after a little over 2 years of use. I ran my 5210 for 13 years and never once had to adjust it.

It sounds like I should have been harder on my dealer about fixing my brakes. Nobody ever offered to buy mine back or extend the warranty. I sent that video to my dealer's service manager and he sent it to a higher up at JD; their response was that it was "in specs". I wonder if I could sell that video to Kubota? :)

Yes, they told me mine were "within specs" the entire time too...

Well I have had this issue on two different 5083E models. I had a 2011 model that they traded me out of and into a 2013 model, which does that same thing. The first push is almost all the way to the floor and the second is a little better. When I pull my HX15 cutter behind it, it won't stop well at all. What is so frustrating is that they know there is an issue and won't do anything about it. Mine won't even stop the tractor when I pull it off the trailer. Last weekend, I was unloading it off my dove tail gooseneck trailer and the tractor just flew off the trailer all the while I had my foot mashed on the brakes. It went so fast, that the front wheels fell off the trailer and cut one of my tires in the process. It is very frustrating. I was trying to ease it down very slowly and I ended up going way faster than I wanted to, or felt safe doing.
Here is the most frustrating part. They have an older version of this tractor called a 5308 I think, and its brakes are fantastic, and yet it is virtually the identical tractor ad the one I have. Same engine, transmission, dash and controls, and yet the brakes on it were fantastic at 800 hours and mine suck at 50 hours. I probably won't ever buy another JD again. The next one will probably be blue, red or orange.

Have you considered putting your tractors trans in lowest reverse with engine idling and removing your foot from clutch pedal? Trans & engine will do the braking required instead of non-operating tractor brakes.

I agree with Jim. That's good advice and a safe way to unload your tractor. However... it does't change the fact that the brakes don't work.

Did the change they made to the brakes make them work any better (when they do work) on the 13+ models? Brakes aren't spongy on mine but if I have any weight (implement, etc) they hardly have the power to stop it. Need to pretty much stand on the pedal. I assume they actually tried to improve brake performance in the new version, but it looks like it isn't going too well.

Wes - I posted on another thread about mine completely losing braking power. Its on page 2 now and has a title about a 5045 being a lemon. My no brakes experience is currently the last post in the thread. But the reason I lost braking power completely was because the hyd fluid got so hot that the temp beside the pto reached 301. With the fluid hot enough to do that, I had no brakes. Was yours extremely hot when you lost braking power? I notice you were mowing, and running the pto is what usually heated mine. Changing the fluid and filters helped mine a lot. I suspect my fluid was ruined because it got real hot 4 or 5 different times.

I'd get a laser thermometer and keep it on the tractor all the time.Check the temp often and if the outside of the driveline gets over 250, shut it down.

Good luck with it!
