Re: Jim\'s new projects

I know what you mean, I come from a long line of self made men. When I extend mine, I'm sure I will be making some classic mistakes.

As long as it keeps the little varmints out, and keeps the machinery dry I'll be happy. I'll post a few pictures myself when the time comes. First I plan to extend my deck. I have, done a few of those. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

By the way I was born in Spangler Pa. We moved when I was 6. Some of my family worked in a small coal mining town called Marsteller, if you know where that is. I Still have an uncle there I visit every year. Around the corner from Carroll town. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Hey, I've driven through Marsteller! My son played on a college prospect team when he was in High School, and they scrimmaged IUPs baseball team a couple of times.

Nice area!

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Well, bad news. Turns out that the mason I hired to lay in the mud between the stone, did so in the wrong color. It was supposed to be white and it is more like a tan color. This turns out to be because of the yellow sand that he used. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Needless to say he is coming back tomorrow to chip out what he did and do it right. I feel bad for him, but mixing color in mortor is not rocket science and he just made a mistake.

We'll see tomorrow at the end of the day what it looks like. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Jim,

If you don't mind my asking, what's the brand name and product/profile name for your stone veneer? I'm planning on using a 2' stone veneer to cover the foundation on my garage and retirement log house.

Happen to have both Cultured Stone and Arrowhead Stone brochures here on my desk now... I really like the looks of your stone pattern, though I'd be looking for a slightly different color blend with more gold/brown in it...

Yours looks really nice and really complements the color of your siding!

Re: Jim\'s new projects

I have a completely different take here....it is a terrible job! You need much more practice. I have just the right place for you to try again .... and a 425 to use so that you will not even have to put more hours on your own.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

The company is called Quality Stone and Veneer. Tdid the front of my house and although going back to them after 14 years, I ended up having to ask them to make a custome blend for me to get a match. The stone is called Ironstone Rubble, like a PA rubble. They cast the stone right here and are only 20 minutes from my house, so that helps to reduce the cost.

Here's a link to their color chart and sight.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Here's a picture of the finished front. The morter is a little lighter than I would want, but will darken fairly soon in this environment as the front of my house did.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Here's a shot from the side. Two things I would have done differently.

1. Used a tan color siding.
2. Used a tiny bit darker morter, (but this will darken over time)
