Re: Jim\'s new projects

We started on the stone veneer today. The forks came in handy for keeping the box of stone close. I would guess that the fully loaded box weighs over 1000lbs, so I had to wait until we had used up about a 1/4 of it before I could lift it without the pucker. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Here's a shot of the stone put on the front and before we put the mud inbetween the joints.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Here is what is looked like after applying the mud morter. The morter will dry to a white color over the next day or two.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Here is a shot of the front from the side. We have about a half day of work left.

Not much for the PT to do now except hold the box with the stone in it and carry the morter bucket.

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Beautiful job !! , I have always wondered how they put the stone up before doing the mortaring? Is that some kind of special backing that the stone sticks to, holding them in place until mortar can be applied, or just a thin layer of mortar? I ask because I have been contemplating doing the same thing to the base of our house. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Re: Jim\'s new projects

Thanks Chad...

Barry:

They tack a metal web to the face of the building and then apply a coat of cement. when that dries, they attach the stone veneer much like you would brick, with a cement morter.

After the stone has dried some, they start the morter the gaps.
