I took my backhoe off for the first time this weekend and hooked up my post hole digger. This is the first time I've had anything hooked to the 3ph. It lowered smoothly, and I was able to adjust the speed that it would lower, but it was extremely jerky when I would lift it. I watched a couple videos on the Kubota L series and mine acted exactly those.

Has anyone seen that issue with their DKxxSE? And what did you do to fix it?

IS your Hydraulic level ok? That and possibly the draft lever in the wrong place make be the culprit.

Hydro fluid level is/was fine. I had draft all way forward, but only because my implement didn't need draft control. Also, I had the PHD frame mounted to the top, non-draft-control hole in the top link mount.

I watched the video and I don't think it is the same as my problem. In the video, and the description of the adjustment, the problem is the 3ph bouncing when in position.

Mine jerks when lifting. If it start with it down, and slowly slide the lever up it jumps and stops. It is almost like it doesn't lift when the lever is between the numbers, but when it hits a number it jumps up an inch or two, then doesn't lift between the next two numbers and jumps up a little more when I hit the next number.

I can then ease it down to any position between the numbers, as is lowers smoothly. It is only jumpy when lifting.

It is most likely the lever setting you are using. Mine will get cranky when I lift my Bush Hog SQ172 up sometimes if the draft lever is not to it's liking. I usually just pull that up an inch or two and it stops the shake, rattle, and roll stuff..

Is it binding up somewhere? Is it catching on something?

A PHD isn't heavy enough that the MLS sensitivity should even come into play (need adjustment).

Just thinking out loud: Does it make any difference if you open the drop speed up to full drop speed?
You just installed 3pt for first time. How long have you had the tractor? Try spraying the pivot balls on the lift levers, all 4 of them (at tractor mount and attachment mount) to make sure these balls are not dry and binding any.
As last resort, take the PHD off and run 3pt with nothing on it and see how that works, should be smooth through full motion.

I have seen DKSE three point systems act real jerky. My dad had the draft lever and the lowering lever mixed up and it would really make a concerning jerk when lifting. Once he put the draft lever all the way down and used the right lever it was great. The far right lever is the lifting and lowering and the left is draft. Good luck.

Nothing binding, lowering was smooth and PHD worked great.
I believe I lowered and lifted the hitch after I removed th PHD and it still seemed to lift in increments rather than a continuous, smooth movement.

I checked my service manual and MLS adjustment got me thinking: when it is adjusted too high, the hitch bounces in place. You are supposed to adjust it until the hitch starts to move and then back it off 1/2 turn. If it were backed off too far, would it fail to move when the lever is only lifted a little?
Does the MLS affect lowering as well, or only sending pressure to lift?

Yeah, got that. The one that says "draft" is for draft. Thanks.

I've run into the same thing on my LK3054. Fluid level OK, filter clean. Very jerky when trying to raise 3PH. Done it ever since I've had it (bought it used with 620 hr on it).

If I haven't sorted it out by the time the dealer comes to deliver my Bush Hog, I am going to have him look at it. I'll report back what I find out.

Still hoping that someone chimes in with a suggestion, though.

I think I may have tracked it back to operator error. More precisely, I think I might have been being too gentle with it.

I lowered it as far as it would go with the backhoe attached and tried easing the handle back up and realized I was a little bit jerky since the lever is tight. When I dropped it down and just threw the lever back to the top position, it would slowly, and smoothly rise. Granted, I didn't have anything mounted on it, but even when I leaned on it, it would come up smoothly.

The dealer is supposed to be bringing my bush hog later this week, so I will have something suitably heavy to hang from the 3ph and will test it out while he is here.

try to lower the speed with the knob between your leg, it should smooth out the operation even if you raise the 3pts by increment, I had the same problem when I first got it.

gunmonkeyintl,
On the video, when I set the MLS Valve, it seemed to jerk when the valve was set to the high side. It seemed to be this way right before it started to bounce. After backing it off to the prescribed 1/2" turn, everything smoothed out and worked. Being there has not been any implements on your tractor, I would bet your valve was not adjusted. It is worth a try; however, I am not sure your tractor is set up the same. There has to be an adjustment.

What is the outcome of your problem. Just following up.:scratchchin:

The MLS only affects 3PH lowering speed, NOT raise speed/condition.

I looked it up for the DK series. It looks like the MLS valve does the same job as the smaller tractors with the same adjustments. You have to get to the adjustment, but there is a sensitivity adjustment on the MLS Valve itself.

I also have very jerky action when lowering or raising on my CK30H. It feels like the linkage sticks and then when you apply enough force to the position control lever get it to move, why then it jumps. The lever is not smooth in operation at all. I notice the lever moves a rod which moves a lever which is attached to what is called "the hydraulic control system 1 group" in the parts manual. The exploded view shows that it has a band type clutch and what appears to be a bolt and a spring to adjust the tension on the clutch. The workshop manual makes no mention of adjustment. Does anybody know anything about this?
