Wow! that sounds like a pretty decent price. I paid just over 15K for my 4010 with 60" MMM 410 FLE ballast box and Imatch. 62" MMM, is that a new product or was that not an option for my 4010, plus it is cheaper at 1499. If I remember correctly that is almost a $500 differance. I wonder if the construction is lighter weight or the same. Well just like any new product line, there will be lots of questions. I hope the backhoe will fit on my 4010 not that I really need one, but I am sure I could make up enough projects that it would eventually pay for itself. I still have lots of shed room even with the boat and utility trailer in for winter.

JD maybe doing the same with the 2210 as they did with the 4010. Dealers who had
sold orders received their machine, while dealers ordering for stock waited. I know
of one dealer who didn receive a 4010 for stock till the end of summer while another
with pre-sold orders moved about six of em... Called around found one dealer with
two 2210, both are sold. One will be delivered Wednesday an the other is waiting for
a snow blower...

In my search for a 2210 I ran across a new 4100 gear, dealer wants to move it.
Decision, decision, do I want to take advantage of a good price on the 4100 gear
drive with cast iron trans-axle an steal body or order a 2210 with HST...

Gunfighter, if the 4100 is a good deal, buy it. That's what I have a 4100 gear. It has never dissapointed me. But you have to not mind shifting gears. For my use the gear tractor suits me just fine. The 4100 is a great small acreage small-frame tractor that is capable of much more than the subcompacts.

If they are going to have a BH for the 2210 I hope they plan on coming up for one on the 4110, it sure would be nice!

JDGREEN4ME,

One of the dealers I visit who has given me a quote told me that a single backhoe is being developed that is compatible with the 2210, 4010, 4110 and 4115. He said the hoe is a subframe mount and the specs are a small step above the B-hoe on the BX22. In fact, he said that an independent tesing company is testing it side-by-side with a BX22. The Hoe is supposedly in QC now and expected to be released to dealers for orders in April or May 2003.

I don't need a backhoe either, but it's comforting to know one would be available if I ever need one. My wife would have rolled her eyes and laughed aloud if she had heard me say that... /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I hope JD agrees to calling the 2210 a subcompact, if they are testing it against another subcompact.

Hi, SethO.

Why is it important that they call it a sub-compact? I think they are testing it against what they see (as do I) as the 2210's biggest competitor, by any name. That much is obvious. I've never understood the hang-up of some people on calling it one thing or the other. It's all about the numbers/specs with me, and most thinking consumers I'll surmise. Even in the literature Massey offers on the GC2300 they refer to the TRACTOR as being "...what is sometimes referred to as a sub-compact tractor." But they don't call it a sub-compact. Trade journalists like Muhammed have a reason to put tractors in class for the sake of comparison but Deere doesn't care what we call it as long as we buy it over the BX or the GC2300, I imagine. I suspect they, like Massey, will market head to head with the BX but what they call it will not change it or its capabilities.

I think I'll not worry about semantics in my analysis. As long as they don't call it a combine, a car, a helicopter, a cheeseburger, a toothbrush, or a turkey sandwich I won't be confused about what it is or its specifications.
Have a good holiday,

Bigpete,

I think that class designations sometimes serve very obvious purposes. For instance, In 1999 when Chrysler introduced the PT Cruiser, it was interesting that though sold as a car alternative, they had it designated as a truck so as not to meet certain requirements. SUVs are compared to cars, though almost all of them are trucks.

In the case of tractors, I suppose that as more is required of the smaller machines, it will neccesary to define them as a class, and not only based on total horsepower, but maybe weight, or versatility. When people then design tools, they can focus on that class and not have customers wonder whether their machines satisfy the requirements to use those tools. An example again will be the limitations of 3PH attachments.

The BX machines are definitely not compact tractors, and they are infinitely more versatile than garden tractors, so if a manufacturer (Kubota) calls them sub, and another (JD) introduces a model similar in ALL respects, then in the absence of an alternative and more appropriate name, it should decently refer to the new machine as a sub. Remember, first to the market (Kubota) does not guarantee dominance in that market segment.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Seth
