The seat on my old 870 has finally rusted completely off. I have a replacement on order for what should be an easy fix but the pin that slides through to hold the seat in place says "Not so fast." It won't budge. Does anyone know what I'm missing? Is the pin rusted in as well? Do the rubber bushings come into play? Appreciate any ideas.

Have you looked at a parts breakdown of your seat? Can see it on jdparts

Put in model # (870), and go to alphabetical listing, under S for Seat. Hope it helps identify which pieces need to move..
May depend on what parts come with the replacement seat.

Same seat arrangement as on my 1070. I didn't have to remove the whole seat assembly. Just tip it forward and unbolt the seat frame from the rails. My new seat just bolted right in. It's thicker though at the back, so I have to move the new seat forward 1 notch because bouncing around can hang it up on the tank backing and kill the engine momentarily due to the seat presence switch.
While you are at it, spray some lithium grease on the slide rails. They tend to rust in place and make it hard to adjust the F/A position.

Appreciate the replies. Decided to wait for the seat to see if it could shed some light. It didn't. It was, in fact, the pin that was rusted in. A pair of vice-grips and bolt rust remover spray finally broke it loose enuff to tap it out. Thanks again.
